Meta query about origins of Weir and Nugent.

This could be called a weird story...Sorry, no relation.
Weir is a (lowland?) Scottish surname. Not too many Weirs in Ireland. The surname came with an Elizabeth Weir who emigrated to Ireland and either shacked up with or secretly married a Lewellyn (sp?) Nugent, the inheritor of a Anglo-Norman estate in Ireland. That was sometime around the English Civil War period. He officially never married. However due to the then anti-catholic Penal Laws if you married a catholic you lost your property. His brother inherited the estate on his death but the Weir branch were made permanent tenants until the 19th Century Land Wars when they gained ownership.
