The Fog at Level 0 acts like Smoke, and would have allowed rout into it, as it negates FFMO. See A10.531.
Yes. We gaked that rule. That along with forgetting PF were the big errors of the scenario. We still had fun playing though.

There might be another one as well - the caves could be seen as soon as you had a LOS to them?

Not sure on that one though so please feel free to correct me :)

Thank you once again for some very enjoyable AAR's

"The caves set up HIP and can wait until the attackers move adjacent for maximum firepower."

Although caves are treated as if in Concealment Terrain [G11.3], they are ordinary Fortifications and lose concealment as such (barring some other rule such as G.4). If a unit has LOS to the cave within sixteen hexes the cave has to be put on board [A12.33]. It's very rare that a cave (or any other fortification) maintains concealment on LOS outside of PTO. You can sometimes put them in a position where they face the "wrong" way and are revealed only when someone goes by, taking advantage of the directional LOS to them.

So your unit that strips the HIP has to be in the covered arc of the cave as well? That makes sense. A cave mouth in a cliff can only be seen from that direction.........

Yes, except if found by search. You have to have LOS to the fortification. Most fortifications can be seen from all directions. Caves can only be seen through their CA [G11.5].

They would - but there is also a +2 Fog (i.e., Smoke) DRM per hex. So you would need to be adjacent into order to have a LOS to the Cave - otherwise the Fog Hindrance blocks the LOS.

Though, the Fog DRM will decrease if there is a Mild Breeze/Heavy Winds - don't know it that applies in this scenario.

There is a mild breeze at start. The caves should be at clear levels in a few turns.

I wonder if weather affects a subterranean location. That might have some unintended consequences.
