Does one have to apply Target-Based Hit DRM - K - ( vs. Concealed Target ) when firing SMOKE into a hex.

For example, when trying to fire SMOKE into a building that has a concealed unit, and the distance is 5 hexes away, what would be the DRM for this smoke placement be, with no hindrances and such. Just the Concealed Unit in the building.

Here is the rule which I am reading................

6.2 CASE K; CONCEALED TARGET: Ordnance firing at a hidden/concealed target [EXC: pillbox/cave occupant; B30.7 and G11.812] must add the +2 DRM of Case K to its TH DR vs that target [EXC: when firing SMOKE, Case K applies only if the target hex contains ≥ one non-hidden enemy ground unit but none of those units are Known to the firer/Spotter]

So according to this one would not use DRM K...............correct ?

Thanks,

I think it would apply as the hex contains a non-Hidden unit but it isn't Known due to being concealed.

Firing SMOKE? Yes. So in the EXC.
Target contains ≥ non-hidden enemy ground units? Yes. Continue on.
None of these non-hidden enemy ground units are Known to the firer? Yes. So per the EXC, Case K applies.

Consider firing IN FRONT of the hex, assuming that's Open Ground.

Dropping smoke in front looks to be the easier, cheaper and more repeatable option

Hi, if the hex in front is open, without units, or other DRM, wouldn’t the attacker incur a +2 TH DRM for K under Area Fire C.4? If so, +2 for firing at concealed vs. +2 for Area Fire nets out?

There is a specific exception for firing SMOKE into a hex devoid of non-HIP enemy units.
C6.2 CASE K; CONCEALED TARGET: Ordnance firing at a hidden/concealed target [EXC: pillbox/cave occupant; B30.7 and G11.812] must add the +2 DRM of Case K to its TH DR vs that target [EXC: when firing SMOKE, Case K applies only if the target hex contains ≥ one non-hidden enemy ground unit but none of those units are Known to the firer/Spotter].

If you fire SMOKE using ATT at an "empty" hex (it may possibly contain HIP enemy units) or one containing friendly units and/or at least one Known enemy unit at range ≤ 12 hexes, the base TH# is 7 modified by C4.4 to a modified TH# of 9 with no Case K DRM. Other DRM may apply. If you fire SMOKE using ATT at a hex that contains non-HIP enemy units and all those enemy units are not Known, the Case K DRM does apply.
