Anyone have a WAG (wild a..ed guess) how many ASL rulesbook ( all editions) have been sold? JUST wondering if Hasbro decided to not renew MMP's license and publish ASL as a video game cartridge or a Risk type toy, how long there'd be supply of ASL rulesbook out there.

ASL rulebooks are like condoms.

It is not the the sales numbers that matter, it is all about proper usage.

:wtf: Hm, dunno...

If expanding on your analogy that would mean playing ASL without rulebooks is better... :D

From a personal perspective, I can say that I have altogether bought 6 ASLRBs:

3x ASLRB v1 (the one I used, one spare, one I gave to a friend and new player)
2x ASLRB v2 (the one I use, one spare)
1x Pocket ASLRB (handy at tournaments)

However, I almost exclusively use an eASLRB for FtF, VASL, and tournament play.

The continued existence of the game depends on the availability of the ASLRB. MMP, which is the licensed ASL producer would probably make more probably make more money if it concentrated on producing all new material, is saddled with the necessity of always keeping the ASLRB in print. You can look at the number out out of print keystones titles and see the balancing act they are performing. With so few players tossing ASL in the dumpster (and reselling instead) each new printing competes against every copy of the product in players hands ( the secondary market). Its much easier and more profitable to release new scenario sets and new maps.
So no one has a clue what Monarch Avalon and MMP set for print runs?

Like all things, it depends I guess. As a book, the ASLRB is one of pricier ones on my shelf.

Yet it's the only book that I bought 3 copies of, knowingly.

I bought the 1st edition when I bought my original ASL collection back in the late 80's and my V2 version I have laminated every page Ch A-D!

I remember buying the Monarch Avalon edition thinking this may be simpler than remembering 4 sets of rules, but it sure is long :)

I remember going into The Gamekeeper, seeing the new rulebook and thinking "why in the heck do they need such a big notebook?" then I opened it and fell in love with "the system"

It's funny, I don't recall feeling overwhelmed by the size of the rulebook back when we made the change.
Of course going from the mess of 4 rule books it didn't seem so bad and really cleaned up a bunch of things, or so we had hoped.
It is remarkably efficient for the scope of chrome it does cover.
