I read a book when I was young called Chicken Hawk (I think) about choppers in Vietnam. That was all I needed to know....no way was I going aviation!!!
When we left whatever shitty FOB we were on at the end we flew out on Chinooks to Anaconda. Sand bagged bunker on the ramp sporting MGs and MGs on the sides. I didn't look closely and assumed they were 240s. I had no idea you guys were packing that kind of fire power.
The standard load for a pouge is 210. I kept over 20 at my station and fired over 15 twice....luxury of Mech. Ammo conservation? Fire disciple? I don't even know the meaning! :)
Then the 60 and 81mm mortar rounds. Oh and the AT4 or Javalin. Bazooka rounds back in the day I imagine. Yeah too much work for me.
I still think the 6th Army could have made it behind the river!
