Hey does anyone know of the Hero Game that is usually played at ASL Tournament. I have never got to play it and was wondering:

Is there a set of rules for it?
And if yes, where can I find them?

The premise of the game, is that it is usually played between rounds late on Saturday, involving:
  • several players,
  • each controlling a hero from a different nationality,
  • played on a number of map boards,
  • various SW littered across the map boards, and
  • some objective

My fantasy for Oktoberfest was The ASL Regatta. A race with water craft around an island packed with nasties. Sigh.

These kind of events where you just game can be so much fun. Again pointing out the multi dimensional nature of the system.

No set of rules but this was posted on the old ASL Mailing List in 1999 by Rob Wolkey:

"You want 6-8 players, preferably late at night after 3 or 4 beers. Set up 3
mapboards (11, 16 and 4 are good). Each player gets a hero from a different
nationality. The number of weapons should equal the number of participants.
We used an ATR, Flamethrower, .50 cal, DC, LMG, MMG, and PzSchrk.

After everyone sets up an equal distance from the middle mapboard, put a ?
marker on each weapon, put them in Q5 on the middle board and perform a
paradrop for each weapon to see where they land; colored die = direction,
white die = distance.

Roll 2 dice to see who goes first (low roll wins) and go clockwise from the
winner. Each player gets one Defensive Fire Phase only. If 3 or more are
involved in CC, if you are attacked, you get to attack back.

Last hero alive is the winner.

Oh yeah, if some asshole trys to goad you into charging a hero with a
Flamethrower, don't do it. Ask Andre about that one. :)
"

I can think of a lot of nice additions like a Radio to call in OBA and such. Maybe even magical potions to give heros a double MPh. Let your imagination go wild :)

Another option is 4 vs 4 playing of Timoshenko's Attack (G1). 3 separated independent boards, and the folks on each side play a turn on one board, and then everyone rotates to the next board for the next turn, with one player sitting out and "resting".

Historically there wuz alcohol involved.

I’m thinking PPs of gold laying around, how about a flakvest that costs a PP but gives a extra +1 TEM. How about a few choice vehicles parked around with the keys in the ignition. How about allies you can release from jail: maybe a 6+1, maybe a unarmed 1/2 squad, maybe something better.

I'm sensing the development of a set of rules that would fill a 3-ring binder. :devilish:

Call it Advanced Hero Quest!, or AHQ! (pronounced Ack!)

Couple of motorcycles, ready to roll.
A radio with 200mm rocket fire mission, preregistered on the ‘church steeple’, or hex Q5 in the center board, lol.
thinking a ‘Wasp’ would be the go to vehicle.

Sam Belcher (R.I.P.) always tried to have a Hero Game at the ASL tourney at Enfilade Saturday evenings, if
enough people had finished up playing scenarios. The requirements were simple:

  1. Two or three mapboards for a playing area
  2. Concealment markers to designate something of value in a location (must make recovery dr 1st!).
  3. Draw the item out of a dice cup or suitably darkened container.
  4. A Hero can NOT refuse combat.
  5. If a Hero dies, he gets regenerated for continuing the game.
  6. Last original Hero wins.
Always good for a bunch of laughs.

Roll a 12. You drink
Roll a 2. Select an opponent to drink
Doubles. Social, all drink.
Roll a 4 and 2. A James Worthy, reverse the order of play. (Bay Area peeps called it a Ronnie Lott)
If you want to up the ante, play the following drinking-games in parallel:

Das kleine Scheißspiel (The small shitty game):
Make a dr. Roll 1 through 5 - you drink. Roll 6, pass the die to the next player.

Das große Scheißspiel (The big shitty game):
Make a dr. Roll 1 through 5 - you drink. Roll 6, then reroll the die.

I have done stranger things with my ASL. I bought a buncha Critical Hit. The scenarios aren’t always the very best, but their old maps were outstanding. I have made Finns fight Germans a lot in some of their crazy maps like Gettysburg.

Soon I will try the same with Swedish Volunteers against some others they never would find themselves fighting.

The second two rules I suggested are from a drinking game we frequently played in college. Mexicali.
DRINKING/PARTY GAMES: Mexicali (drinksmixer.com)
Sometimes tequila was involved.

I made a mistake. 3,1 was the social roll.
