Thanks for your support Juan - looks great !!
33 players have pre registered at the moment, with 27 in the main tournament

We have room for more players, so don't hesitate if you long for a weekend of fun ASL :)

A little question as people were wondering about this in another thread:

What table is currently used as "default" at the Scandinavian Open - IFT or IIFT (with CTC)?

In the past, has the IIFT (with CTC) been used as "default" or has its use even been decreed as "mandatory"?

Thanks,

From the website:
Infantry Fire Table:
The standard IFT Fire table is the default fire table used. If both players agree you may use the IIFT.

That is Correct Philippe, IFT unless both players agreed not to... I think it is 10 years since we changed it.

WEBSITE UPDATED
* http://www.asl-so.dk/abs.htm
We have made a late clarification to a tournament scenario (Round 5, Autumns Approach) with regards to the playing area AND Victory conditions. These minor things have been confirmed by Vic Provost from DFTB. The clarifications are:

VC
* Control hexes 71I8, I9 and J8 (scenario card says J9)
PLAYING AREA
  • The playing area on board 11a is <= 10 (scenario card says >=10)
  • Hexrow Q on board 11a is not in play (not specifically mentioned on the card)
This will all be reflected on the Scenario booklets that Andreas from Trojan Games once again so generously provides for us.

SPONSORSHIP SHOUTOUT
The ASO Elite crew we would like to give a huge shoutout to our loyal sponsors again. In 2022 we want to highlight Le Franc Tireur who once again has donated an overwhelmingly generous package of goodies to our tournament and Andreas Carlsson from Trojan Games who continues to loyally Sponsor our event - and now also donates his time to create scenario booklets which only helps improve the ASO Event. Other loyal sponsors are Lone Canuck Publishing, MMP and Bounding Fire Productions.

Bonus shoutout - Juan Santa Cruz who donates his time to create a bonus prize for the tournament winner.
Bonus shoutout - Melvin Falk who donates high quality scans and scenario cards for our Festung Budapest scenarios.

What is cost for a Baz SWPP (DTF SSR)? Baz not listed in table but listed as purchasable in Scenario Panther Cull?

ASO 2022 (almost) under way

The early arrivals are building up energy through a solid breakfast and eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament. The first pair of players are going to start to play early to get a head start on the early start. Olivier Dietsch and Michael Hemmingsen have been paired to play and are setting up for “Never on Time” which seems strangely inappropriate.

With a late cancellation and a late change of arrival time the main tournament will be down to 24 players. Starting Saturday there will be a 4 player mini tournament (sponsored by Keys Game Emporium). With friendly gamers the event will feature a total of 36 people showing up at some point during the event.

4 players will be there for the “full monty” starting the Friendly gaming on Wednesday and staying through Sunday – Michael Hastrup-Leth, Magnus Rimwall, Tim Hundsdorfer and Olivier Dietsch. Olivier even arrived on Tuesday for an early start on the “full monty”.

Early favorite for the 24 people Main Event is 2017-winner Melvin Falk with Dane Kenneth Knudsen the only other previous ASO winner. 2020-winner Michael Hastrup-Leth is on standby to enter the tournament in case there is a cancellation. Other rivals for honors include Mattias Bergwall, Svante Sandblom, Arnaud Sanchis … but probably not Andreas Carlsson, because he doesn’t know how tanks work 😊

Shoutout to all the Heroes fighting in Blackpool - and Ukraine.

The first round ended with mostly favorite wins and now the second round is under way. Almost everyone is storming Lommel this round. 10 out of 12 games in the main tournament is Storming Lommel from the 2nd Death to Fascism pack. One battle takes place in Budapest (the excellent Stalingrad Redux) and a pair of players ended up in Korea by accident ... and all of the sudden Thomas Harjo and Kenneth Knudsen were seen cramming the special rules relating to the Koreans.

Meanwhile the Danish crew took a drive down the Prokorovka highway in the new limited release from Sebastiano Caltabiano (Advancing Fire). The maps are pretty neat and once you try out rules for the "rolling hills" of the continuous hillocks (basically) it sort of makes sense and feels pretty correct.

The 3rd round is getting under way. 6 players remain undefeated and all of them are taking a swing at AP171 Pössl's Posse

Melvin vs. Olivier
Svante vs. Ketil
Kenneth vs. Mattias

Pössl's Posse is the more popular choice in this round, but also several games of Pillbox Pains. As the main tournament is getting under way, our mini tournament is also set to start and another group of Friendly Gamers are set to arrive for today.

With the 3rd round completed we are down to 3 unbeaten players.

Three Swedish players are still in contention to win the tournament - Melvin Falk, Svante Sandblom and Mattias Bergwall.
Tonight there'll be a total of 12 games of "The Beasts have Arrived", 1 game of "return of the black company" and one game of "Pattons Ghost" (Korea).

We are down to the final 2 undefeated players. Multi-time winner Melvin Falk will play first-time finalist Mattias Bergwall. Mattias' and his Australian "Sparrow Force" will attempt to capture the all important huts from the invading japanese forces.

The International Team Tournament (Team Denmark, Team Sweden, Team Norway and Team International) is still up for grabs. Team Sweden leads the way before the final round but Team Denmark can still change this. Two key matchups will determine the outcome (Arnaud Sanchis vs. Andreas Carlsson and Kenneth Knudsen vs. Olav Heie).

ASO 2022 COMPLETED

The 25th Edition of Scandinavian Open has been completed. 36 players participated in some fashion – by playing in the main tournament, mini tournament or just a couple of friendly games.

Thanks to all the participants and Sponsors. Extra shoutout to Andreas Carlsson, Juan Santa Cruz and Melvin Falk who donated some of their time for the betterment of the tournament. Andreas created the booklets for all rounds, Juan Santa Cruz who created a Diorama of a captured KV-2 as a prize for the tournament winner and Melvin Falk to brought quality copies for the scenarios played on the Festung Budapest Maps (which included a summary of all special rules).

Melvin Falk won the Final game, defeating Mattias Bergwall. Mattias was literally and figuratively on his knees early on stepping into Melvins trap. And the trap slammed down hard. WIth Svante Sandblom in 3rd place Sweden completed a clean sweep of the top-3 position.
