If a Commissar tries to rally a Broken Infantry (2-2-8) Crew, is the Crew eliminated or is it Replaced with a Broken Vehicle (1-2-7) Crew?

IIRC, both Infantry and Vehicle Crews are Elite so that doesn’t satisfy the requirement to go down one Class.

Only Infantry Crews are elite, but yeah - they both are eliminated by the (Soviet) Commissar if he fails to rout them.

>1.123 CREW: A crew counter bears the silhouette of two kneeling men and represents roughly five men with special training who perform as a group to operate special weapon counters. A crew also represents picked men who are the best of their company regardless of their Morale Level as evidenced by their Self-Rally capability (10.63). As such, Infantry crew counters are always considered elite troops with a printed Morale Level equal to that of their nationality's Good Order elite squads as well as FP and Range factors of two.<<

Perhaps a better verbiage might be "A broken crew is eliminated. A broken SMC or HS that cannot be Replaced is eliminated."
So it means (through implication only) that SMC are subject to Replacement? If that's the case, why make them distinct at all from MMCs? MMC's are subject to Replacement.

I was just asking about the wording, for better clarity.

MMC are subject to replacement and so are SMC. But a Conscript cannot be replaced so it is reduced, if a full squad, or eliminated, if it is a HS. A SMC that cannot be replaced, for example a 6+1 leader, is apparently eliminated, not casualty reduced. Other, higher, SMC ranks can be replaced, to a lower rank. Crews cannot be replaced and therefore are eliminated, as many have already stated. Squads, Half squads, and crews are MMC so it is best in this case not to lump them all together as there are specific rules for each type.

I am pretty sure I have this right.

G1.123 -- step-reduced is a different process than replaced. G1.11 - IJA infantry crews can suffer step reduction. They are never replaced .. as a term of art.
