I met a PTO US Army vet once who was slightly indignant that people think only the Marines fought in the Pacific. My own father-in-law was in the Army and in the PTO but wouldn’t talk about his experiences. He only said once that you knew where the Japanese were at because they smelled like the fish they were eating. I thought an SSR for this might cut down on PTO bug hunts!
thanks to changing school system educations where US History takes a back seat to art and drama classes (and budget constraints cut even those 2 from the classes far too often); we now have a pair of generations walking around, (and more to come), with no concept of the totality of WW2. You'd be surprised how many people I run into from Gen X'rs on to todays schoolchildren in 9-12 grade, who have a firm belief if they recall anything about the PTO in WW2, it was ALL about the Marines. They don't even recognize the Navy was there, either. I typically softly remind them about something called "Pearl Harbor" after they say there was no Navy fighting in WW2 - they typically respond " oh, well, there is , that...."(If they even know what Pearl Harbor means to US History).

It's a system designed to streamline everyone into science, technology, engineering and math, the rest falls out the window - and we're doing it to ourselves is the sad part.

I know and knew a lot of Army PTO veterans in my time, like all ww2 vets, we who served from 1980 on, (and many before us), hold them in high regard for the sacrifices we know they gave and endured, regardless of their branch of service.

:)

What is worse is I have heard many millennials/gen x who think Germany was on the Allied side and the US and Germany were fighting Russia. They have no concept of the evil nazi regime nor even the evil Soviet regime, hence why this younger generation embraces socialism and communism.

I think that there actually were more US Army troops fighting in the PTO than USMC.

About the smell linked to the food, I also read that in a book about the Burma campaign.
Presumably, Japanese could also detect British and Americans after their smell - olfactive sense is one of the most performant one.

18 US army divisions vs 6 USMC. 5 Australian divisions I think - not including the 8th which was destroyed at Singapore. Not sure how many British-Indian divisions in Burma at peak but at least a dozen....

British people find that Indian people smell of curry....while Indian people find that British people smell of pork. :D

I heard that, due to our eating diary, we are said to smell like corpses by the Chinese.
Just a hearsay or urban legend?

Come on Rick - Assault on Monkey Point feature early war Marines - not it is the only scenario in Corregidor with the USMC.
We are talking about the CGs,there are no Marines in Corregidors CGs.
2 of the early war scenarios have marines.

Nphum Ga - Annual 97 and Kakazu - Journal #2 both had campaign maps but no CG for either map. There are several scenarios for both maps. This doesn‘t fulfill the GC requirement but they both feature US Army troops.

Would love to see a CG addition to ASL Journal #2's Kakazu Ridge HASL. It pits U.S. Army vs. Japanese dug in to caves and might be easy to convert to CG. Great map, but as it stands few scenarios really engage with it in it's entirety.

Having prepared the KR map and presenting it to MMP - it was my original intention that it be used to do a HASL with it in order to provide the PTO player with something like Red Barricades. The 'Army Green Book' provides the details for such a HASL design, but.... Alas...

It's a damn shame. The Gorge J13 was my favourite scenario I played last year.

I'm going to play the remaining ones once a year (when my oppo visits his folks around xmas) to drag out the enjoyment.

I am supremely confident that if someone designed a full CG for the Kakazu Ridge materials already published (twice now), and submitted a finished and playtested, proofed and re-proofed, errata corrected CG to Perry or Chas at MMP, such a submission would receive nothing but a positive response from those 2 ASLrs at MMP.

Agreed. Here's the source materials for Kakazu Ridge for those (hopefully) interested in going for a HASL:
