I'll wait for it to hit Redbox. We only make it out to the theaters for one, maybe two, movies a year. Next one we'll go to for sure will be Rogue One.
Disney can't do Star Wars......

pfffhhttt. Only worth the 4.00 on DVD from Amazon in about a year or so.

;)

It looks incredible, I will definitely watch it. It's a great story and deserves to be told. I wonder if he helped any Japanese wounded.

flame war material - the Cubs are going to win the pennant, period !! :D :D
They've already won the pennant. Now they need to win the World Series.

Go Cubs, although the Indians pitching is lined up perfectly for tonight. But, that Cubs lineup can sure rake.

Says a guy with a 4 year old. ;) Babysitting is expensive and I doubt your SO would want to spend her night out going to a war movie.

The story is a bit of a cliché these days.....fine fodder for Hollywood. But the fact that the battle is set in Okinawa and that most of the action took place just behind Kakazu Ridge does perk my interest.

Agreed. Why did it take 70 years to make the big screen?

I wonder if he helped any Japanese wounded.
I doubt it. IIRC, NQ was in effect. ;)

Seriously, it would be interesting to know how Doss felt about the Japanese. Don't know if the doco The Concientious Objector can answer your question, but it may be worth watching.

After suffering through Episodes 1 -3, I'd argue that Lucas can't do Star Wars either.

She'd probably go just for the popcorn. We get out so little we have to spread it around a bit to keep it fresh. A movie here, dinner and some live jazz there ...

I'll see it eventually. If it is truly outstanding, say Band of Brothers quality, I'll probably buy it.

According to wiki...York never acknowledged himself, nor signed papers, declaring himself to be such.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_York
according to the link you posted "...When he registered for the draft, he answered the question "Do you claim exemption from draft (specify grounds)?" by writing "Yes. Don't Want To Fight."[11] When his initial claim for conscientious objector status was denied, he appealed.[12]..."'

take a gander at this:

run time is over two hours. Makes it iffy for me.

Might buy on Blue Ray so I can break it up if I need to.

I dunno. I haven't forgiven Gibson for what he did with Scottish history in Braveheart.

I'd rather go see Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot. ;)

Double header weekend. Dr Strange and Hacksaw Ridge.

As to Doss' attitude towards Japanese. He likely treated at least one, as American medical supplies were found one the Japanese soldier. No other US medic was in the area. Diss also claimed he attempted to help a wounded Japanese soldier but was threatened with being shot by another if he did so.

I have a theory; some people don't like Mel Gibson so they dismiss his work regardless of the merits.
