Who do you think has done the most for the ASL hobby in the past 25 years? Or better yet, who do you think is worthy of special recognition for his (or her) efforts in promoting The Game?

Perhaps it is your favourite scenario designer. :hail:

Or maybe the designer of a popular historical module.

Maybe your pick would be a tireless artist, play tester or proof reader. :halo:

Is there a tournament director that springs to mind? :stop: It's my tourney and I'll adjudicate if I want to...

How about an ASL club executive, creator of your fav ASL website, or third-party producer? :bounce:

Know an innovative individual who has done something unique: i.e. posted a live video podcast of an ASL game played on the International Space Station using heaps of blue tack. :ar15:

Heck, it could even be an under-appreciated map elf. :violin: :cheeky:

In fact, it could be just about anyone, including the person who got you into the hobby, or has encouraged you to keep playing ASL all these years.

Do you have a mentor worthy of recognition, a buddy who has always been there when you needed your ASL fix--even when he'd much rather watch the football game or NASCAR. :D

Well if you do, we would like to give three worthy folks something for their Christmas stockings.

Tell us who is the most deserving and why. Between now and 30 November, we will consider the best candidates based on your posts and/or the number of "nominations" each individual receives.

On the first of December, we will announce the top three nominees. Each nominee will be eligible to receive a free set of our ASL Anniversary dice below (shipping included). A nominee may decline the prize, accept a gift certificate in lieu of the prize, or donate the prize to someone.

To make this work, we may need some help getting in touch with the "winners." As soon as a nominee accepts or declines a prize, we will let everyone on GameSquad know. Once we have a winner's acceptance (and shipping address), we will mail the prize--hopefully by 3 December.

Not sure that your nominee will win? Or have a deserving friend in mind? No problem. Until 30 November, you can purchase a set of ASL Anniversary dice for a friend and the shipping (airmail) and gift wrapping is on us! Email battleschool@rogers.com for full details.

That is a very difficult question because there are so many people to choose from.

A lot of people deserve this title.

But my choice would be Chas Smith.

Hands down the award goes to my 14 year old son whom is religiously learning ASLSK while at that same time getting infused from his dear old dad things from 'the big book of ASL'. Perhaps when we all die he will be the sole infusion of 'new blood' into the hobby, one can dream of course. My 10 year old is on the fence but my evil design against their mother is to so totally indoctrinate these two willing to be shaped minds into the 'World of ASL' that they will be the life brings in 30 years....

ASL's still here, with an official producer and has not been relegated to being a hobbyist-supported-variant-ridden-zombie-game.

That makes it Curt Schilling in my book.

I don't think Hitler has done much of anything in the past 25 years...or has he?

Granted Adolf has not contributed anything in the last 25 years, his legacy still lives on with such great CG's as Stalingrad, Berlin, KGP and so on. That little CPL might not play ASL but boy he came up with some real cool historical stuff for us ASL'ers to design and play. So my hats off to good old Adolf, what a dude.

Of course without FDR and Uncle Joe and friends, it wouldn't be much of a competive game. Uncle Joe will give us ASL Korea and Uncle Ho has given us Dien Bien Phu.

Maybe it should be by categories.

A) Product-for lack of a better term: i.e. Designers, Design(s) (to include HASL)
B) Behind the Scenes: i.e. playtesters, proofers, layout specialists,
C) Artists: i.e. map, board, counter art 'elves'
D) Catch All: Tourney Directors, GS helper-types (e.g. Klas Malmstrom answering rules Q/A every day), etc.

Re: The People's Choice Awards: Who has contributed the most to ASL in the past 25 ye

Also interesting that Chris' elected to phrase it "...in the past 25 years.."

What would you answer if he had said "...for the past 25 years.." The intent in this instance being to imply a continued contribution, whereas I think the original phrase could imply this or a more 'one(ish)-off,' but very significant contribution.

We are okay with that. You can nominate one person for each category, including the same person for multiple categories. And we will add a fifth category: best sportsman or woman, most promising newbie, best ASL buddy, etc.

That is five sets of our ASL Anniversary BattleDice up for grabs! :vegguitar: :bandrum: :coolban:

Remember that the number of nominations that a person receives is not the only deciding factor. We will also consider nominations based on the strength of the post, arguments advanced, etc. So tell us why your nominee deserves recognition, and a set of dice.

Re: The People's Choice Awards: Who has contributed the most to ASL in the past 25 ye

Hi-

Ok why am I nominating Adolf Hitler? Because without the little fuhrer we would not have such a great game like ASL. We would not be able to enjoy the Awesome modul VotG by Tom Morin without Adolf's insane attack into Stalingrad. Nor Would we be able to enjoy CH! Afrika Korps packs if it was not for Adolf sending Erwin Rommel out to North Afrika to offer an actual challange to Brit dominance in that area.

Heck without Adolf, we would not have Black SS counters.

Well eloquence is not my thing, so my vote maybe lost in the words of others...but here goes...

A) Morin (scenario designs of interest over many years, including geos and HASL and Historical Studies)
B) Chas Argent (years behind the scene contributing, to earn a slot at MMP and once there seemingly re-energized MMP)
C) Kurt Miller (fine HASL maps)
D) Hildebran (ASLOK, need one say more?)

Your new "E") Malstrom (for effectively and calmly and civilly answering rules Q and A and the like here on GS)

They are all still chasing Mark Nixon's all-time contributions.

Pete,

Sure another worthy ASLer-indeed. But....

Chris wants you/us to vote for the A thru E slots. Chris has suggested that this award of his is not a one man event, unless that man takes each category.
