Has anyone attacked Turkey before? What is their strength and how long will the war last?

If the axis approaches ankara, the soviets are allowed to declare war.

That makes it a risky move.

Taking over Turkey would give me a land link between Europe and the middle east which would be nice. Also I can move plenty of units right up next to the Caucasus before the attack on Barbarossa.

However if the USSR decides to declare war that would weaken my chances of a quick victory using the Barbarossa bonuses. Also no chance of the Turks joining the Axis either.

Interesting option.

I doubt you'd be able to accomplish much using it. For the very same reasons you''d like to do it, I'd deploy a large number of corps along the turko-soviet border, declare war as soon as I'm allowed, and rush forward into turkish territory to get a buffer zone, if not save the turks outright.

Maybe it would be a good bluff. It would force the Allied player to move many units to that part of the map where they would be useless if the Axis player decided to attack the USSR from eastern Europe.
