The printed manual states that using the "O" key will bring up the view options window which will allow you to customize the current settings.

When I click "O" or select "View" and then "Options" from the menu, nothing happens. I thought the phase lines and other overlay graphics could be turned on and off by accessing this menu. Am I missing something?

Strange. You should be able to hit "o" and the options menu pops right up. I tried to see if it was case sensitive or something, but it doesn't matter. Maybe Cpt. Proctor can answer this question.

This function (and the hot key) only works when time is stopped.

This is intentional. We didn't want anyone upset because they accidentally opened the option menu at a critical moment in a battle.

Yes, I saw that in the manual. I have restarted the game and tried this several more times. Nothing. I have started and stopped the clock and still get no response. I have tried it both with the keyboard and with the menu with no results.

Any ideas? :hmmm:

This is probably a stupid question, but...:dead:

You are using the 'O' (oh) key and not the 0 (zero) key, right?

If this is not the problem, try clicking on the bar at the top of the window to ensure it is "in focus" and try again.

Also, make sure that there is no window open that requires text input, such as the Mission or TACSOP property page for a hierarchy mission. This will disable hot keys.

If this doesn't do it, I will need some of the same answers I need for your other problem. I would begin to strongly suspect that some other program you are running has stolen key focus from ATF.

I HATE BUGS:mad:

Yes, I'm using the "O" key, not the zero.

I tried closing all the other programs I could find, but that didn't help.

Could it be my keybord? I'm using one of those Microsoft Internet keyboards with all the buttons on the top. I doubt that's it though.

It's weird because all the other options such as "H" for the hierarchy tree and "M" for the mini-map work fine. Only the "O" seems to give me problems.

Do you have anything like Sidewinder software that maps keys for other games?

I know, I'm scraping. I've been unable to recreate the problem as of yet. I'll keep trying.

I have a Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick. I hardly use it, but it is plugged in. I'll try unplugging it then reboot and see what happens.

More importantly, shut off the sidewinder softare which is sitting in your sysTray. It may be the problem.

Maddog,

Someone on another forum was having a similar problem. Here was his solution:

Wohoo, it's fixed! On a hunch, I uninstalled again, wiped out all registry entries, rebooted, and then reinstalled. The options surfaced for me now! (I should have mentioned I was in the process of doing this on my last post, heh I get forgetful as I tire out)

However, the support for this product is extremely awesome--thank you for the quick response.

If you uninstall and reinstall to the same directory, you should not lose any saved game. I know this is unacceptable, and we are working hard to fix the bugs. But, in the meantime, this should get you up and running.

Well, I read all the posts for this problem and I have it too. I did try reinstalling using the uninstaller in the Control Panel. I did not reboot. Launched the game again (version 1.0) and the option did not work. Installed the update (version1.01) and still no luck.

If someone would help me with the registry deletion process, I will try again with the uninstall.

Again, I really have the problem. I have followed all the rules and am hitting the right key as well as using the [View][Options] menu.

Thanks,

Try the following:

1. Uninstall the game, using the control panel.

2. reboot.

3. Install the game from the CD.

4. Reboot

5. Run the program from the icon on the start menu or the desktop.

This should solve the problem.

I took the time to follow your directions exactly and they were ineffective. Additionally, after trying with the original version, I executed the 1.01 Update, rebooted, ran the program and again the whole process was ineffective.

I realize that this problem is not universal but, it appears to be a bug of some sort in the program. May I suggest a look at the code. As a previous user indicated, and it is the same for me, all other "Hot Keys" work yet, the [View][Options] procedure does not. This would indicate to me that it is a most probably a program bug.

I will of course try any other suggestions.

Thanks,

I did not mean to indicate that the problem was something you were doing wrong. There is, in fact, an error in the Microsoft Installer package which installs the game. We are working feverishly to solve the problem.

The problem is that we have been unable to recreate it. So, any help that you can provide as to information about what other programs may be running, even in the background, will be VERY helpful. Also any other system information, regional settings on your computer, etc.

I want to confirm that you UNinstalled the program, not "Repaired" it from the Control Panel, and then turned off the computer. You are the first customer for which this procedure has not worked.

I did a full Uninstall and Not a Repair. However, the next time I tried to Install the process seemed rather short in duration so I Installed again and got the repair screen, so I clicked repair. However, I am pretty sure that subsequent Installs went normal.
The screen will flicker when I hit the [O] but no {Options} window appears. I will try one more time. Wish me luck!

I have experienced the same problem now. On installing ATF on a different PC than the one whereI was first trying it out, I also noticed that there was no way to get the options dialog to appear. Not just the hotkey; selecting from the menu also doesn't work. All the other dialogs are fine.

Strangely enough, the two PCs are practically identical, just in different locations. I would have to look hard to find any meaningful differences between them.

The install process proceeded uneventfully in both cases. I tried the full uninstall technique on the problem system, to no avail.

I want my NATO icons!

Regards,

--- Kevin

In some e-mails I have exchanged with the software folks I learned that they have been able to duplicate the error and are working "hard" to fix it. This was about two weeks ago and have heard nothing new. Hopefully soon!

Sorry for the delay.

The war has created alot of turmoil here at the National Training Center, requiring me to do some additional tasks in my <other> job.

We just about have this problem licked. It is actually a result of the "slider" bar that appears on the Options window. This component, apparently, does not install with some versions of Windows. We are working on an installer fix and an interim patch to prevent everyone from having to reinstall Armored Task Force to fix the problem.

Sorry for the delay AND the inconvenience. We hate bugs.

Anything new on this subject. Last I heard you had figured out what was wrong and were working on a solution. This was over a month ago. Any luck? When can we expect an update?

The problem has been fixed and is part of the version 1.02 update, which will be available next month (June).

Sorry for the delays. Adding the scenario and map builder turned out to be a bigger project than we anticipated.
