Is using BIOEd a good idea for trying to do a Naval Scenario?

If so, could you give some advice how to best do it.

My BioEd doesn't work at home (win'98) but does at work (win2000), is there a driver package that may accompany the BioEd for windows 98.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have no problem with Bioed on Win98, must be something on the configuration. Ask Bio. Anyway, if you are going for a truly naval scenario (no land units) it's going to need a lot of work, including tile changes, (so ships can have a tailored speed) switching around land and water, etc.

Hey,

got it working.
had to copy a Driver file from my work PC.

Okay, i know it'll definitely be a lot of work, but i'm up for it.

I've been playing with it a little and can't seem to reduce the movement points alotted for naval units.

I'm going for either a 6 hr turn or possibly a 1 day turn rate. with this, the ships can move just too far for realism.
You mentioned sumthin about switching land and sea units.
Uhmmm, could ya give me a wee bit of an example.

I think i know what you mean but not quite sure.
I tried giving it movement characteristics but with no real results.
Only played with it for about an hour but I think i'll need some help with 1 or 2 units. Recon and Sub-fuelers and schtuff like that.

All in all, I need a wee bit of experience with one or two units.

Any help would be so cool.
Give me your address and I'll definitely send ya a Christmas Card!

okay,
no reply needed.
got the hang of it.
Should be hard to get the exact results needed and wanted but will try.

Any one have naval suggestions.

Am starting to design the naval battle between the Bismark and the british fleet.

Recon units (PBY's) should be difficult. Subs too.

Any suggestions?

For recon you might try offering a few “one time only” Theater Options which give a one turn Theater Recon of X%. Use of the TO should probably carry some type of penalty, such as a cost in victory points. The idea would be to have a one turn air reconnaissance mission with X% chance of spotting the enemy fleet.

As for subs, I would think that you are left to the extremes of imagination. Possibly you can have an anti-naval artillery unit that can fire 300 kilometers to simulate submarines. Or maybe an aircraft unit with anti-naval capability that can be activated for a turn or two. Once again, you would probably need to use TOs to make this happen in accordance with the player’s desires.

However you decide to attack this problem, I would suggest that you stay away from “House Rules”.

thanks for the idea.
I had thought of sumthin like that too, but if it goes into a long running one, could be a lot of events.
Was thinking of using multiple sets of identical formations of aircraft modified by BioEd that disappear after two turns(PM). It's up to the user to decide where to use them. I think I'll have to make the PBY only water based, can't fly over land(kinda stoopid I know but all I can do so far).

I was thinking while testing the new equipment, "Why not do the whole Battle of the Atlantic" Once I find a suitable combination for sub strengths and such, maybe the Wolf Packs will hunt again!

So far in preliminary tests, Bismark had sunk 3 out of a group of 5 supply ships(15,000 tons each) and made an attack on the Hood. The attack against the Hood did 30% damage(no lucky ammo bunker shot there). The turn ended after that and then it was the hood's attack. It moved in between the Bismark and the supply ships. it then fired a volley and did severe damage to the Bismark. it was sent reeling back one hex(10 km), then the Hood moved in for the kill and with it's next Volley, the Bismark was lost.
The Allied Supply ships went on their merry way and the Hood was victorious.

Hmmm, have to edit the Bismark Characteristics.
Next, the PrinzEugen, and possibly the other allied fleet.

The problem with subs is that their main characteristic, stealth, is difficult to reproduce.
