Anyone have the OOB for the ground forces of both the United States and Japan that fought on Guadalcanal?
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/PTO/Hell/index.html
Anyone got any other info or sites? Those sites are fine for the U.S. OOB. That info is pretty easy to find. The Japanese OOB is the B*tch to get info on.

I may be able to dig up a few units for japan side ill look and see what i can find as well i did have a toe for a USMC bn maybe i could dig that up as well if you need it.
Thank you very much, I would be grateful. Ike
Ike,
I am currently reading Guadalcanal The Definitive Account of the Landmark Battle by Richard B. Frank (Random House, Inc. 1990) and I recommend it highly. Since the Japanese, and Americans for that matter, were reinforcing continually throughout the campaign, are you looking for the entire campaign August 1942 - February 1943 or the OOB as per a specific date/month?
Did you know the author claims that last known straggler surrendered in October 1947?
Yes Im building a scenario titled "Turning point, Quadalcanal." and would like the entire OOB. Div,Rgt&Btn. If that book has it I would like to have you send it. This is an outline of what I have so far on their OOB's. Also I didnt know the last Japanese surrendered on Guadalcanal in 1947. I did hear a story where some Japanese guys surrendered in the Phillipines in the 70's! Their former C.O. was brought in from Japan to speak and get them to surrender.

Do you have a map done alrdy? What scale will the map be? What units scale are you planing on Company/Battalion/? I would be happy to work on the oob and toes for you in game if you like.
will you be useing standard equipment or a modefied one? I havent finishd reaserching but its getting quite late here.
Yes I do have a map but it is not entirely finished yet, I am still filling in the terrain features. Im using geography maps and drawings U.S.Marines made while there. The map scale is 2.5Km per hex. Really no other choice considering the entire island of Quadalcanal is only around140Km long. Unit scale will be Battalion/Company. I will be using standard equipment. I would like it very much if you would assist on the OOB's and TOE's. As far as how exactly I want to do the naval aspect of the campaign Im still racking my brain. The naval action was VERY important to the campaign as it had a paramount impact to what happened on the Island. COW models naval action weakly so it seems the Naval side of things will heavily rely on the event engine. Also on this issue is the Japanese reinforcements. Many Japanese units headed toward Guadalcanl but as we know never got there. Especially as they began to lose control of the waters and skies in the area This has to be modeled I think. Ike

Perhaps you could set it up like this on the 1st 2 turns allied navy has naval dominance and there units are deployed on the map then night of August 8 Japanese fleet sinks three cruiser. You could either have it set to automatically withdraw the Allied fleet, or put in a theator option that the Allied player could either withdraw the fleet or risk keeping the fleet there. With further events set on a percentage chance that could cause bad things to the Allied fleet. If the Allied fleet is withdrawn maybe you could set Japan naval fleet to come in on the turns they did to bombard the Allied ground forces.
I think you should set the Japan ground forces that made it to automatically arrive when they did and the ones that didnt make it you should put a percentage chance for them to arrive through events. Early on you could set the percentage chance high (60-80%) and as it gets worse for the Japanese set it lower and lower.
When I have more info ill get back to you.

I would remove the ferry bridgeing teams,75mm howitzers, smg squad, and the trucks I dont think they had many if any trucks as they were left behind along with a 155mm howitzer bn for the 11th Marines
for the artiller bn keep the 18 75mm howitzers,6 light rifle squads and drop every thing else.
this is a toe i made for the marine bn's
27 Heavy rifle squads 12man squad with maybe 1smg and 3 bars
35 medium MG
2 Jeep
6 60mm mortar
4 81mm mortar
4 37mm atg
4 heavy mg
Note I gave each bn one AA platoon and one AT platoon.
do you know if the marines had bazzokas at the begining of the operation or did they arive later.I also believe I have found a complete oob for the marine forces if you need it ill post it.
I think you are 100% right on the 27 Rifle Squads being Heavy Rifle Squads. Looking at some sources the Marine Infantry were packing heavy. Sure man, if you have the OOB's for the Marines post it. I have 1 for the 1st Marine Div, but not the 2nd Div.
Also the entire Japanese 38th Division served on Quadalcanal. If anyone has an OOB for this Japanese Division it would be most helpful or even just the Regiments in it. Ike

The 3rd Kure SNLF Parachute Rgt. Landed on Tulagi,Gavutu and Tanambogo May 3rd. The majority being on Tulagi where they began constructing a seaplane base. They put up fierce resistance to the Marines for 2 days before being overwhelmed. Meanwhile the 5th Yokosuka SNLF was on Quadalcanal 20 miles away.
Im very glad to have found this info as I didnt know the Units that were defending Tulagi or when they arrived. :D

I just happend to come across this site I cant gaurntee the accuracy of the site but it dose give a lot of information on Japanese units. the only thing I have a question about is the 230 regiment witch i thought was in the 35th Bde. the 2nd divisons apear's to be correct since anothers source match's up with it. there is more info there on ships and planes.
www.friesian.com/history/guadal.htm
also I by chance came across a board game for guadalcanal. and found oob's for the board game I thought maybe it could be usefull if it appears to be acurate. As you have stated the jappanese oob is hard to get. here are some images that i have found for it.
Any news about this scenario?. Has it been released?.

does the Japaneese even stand a chance in any land battle in Guadalcanal?
when I play flat-top, the naval battle is very challenging for both sides.
in tOAW I wonder what victory conditions you'll put to make the game not too much one-sided.?
keep up the work, I look forward to see the scenario finished!

As far as I know he has not released it. The last I heard from him it sounded like he was close to a play test version or in that phase. Though I dont know if he is still working on it as I last heard from him in late August of last year. I hope that he is still working on it as this is one I would like to see done.
Im still working on this scenario on and off. More off than on in the last several months but now Im on. I will have beta version wrapped up and posted within a month for some feed back hopefully.
