Greetings All:

I'm new to the forum. I played TOAW a long way back with a friend PBEM. Having found this site and forum with support for for Ladder Play and lots of scenarios, I'd like to get back in the saddle.

I own the "CD version", the original boxed retail version and the WOTY edition, but not ACOW.

Hence my question: are most [or all] folks playing with the ACOW version ... and patched to which version (seems like 1.4 gets referred to a lot)?

ACOW is available on eBay, at considerable cost. But if the "benefits" are worth it, I'll pop.

Please, if there are a good number of people playing other versions, could someone briefly outline the "benefits" of ACOW vs the others?

Thanks very much in advance.

You simply need COW, it has the most available usermade scenarios and provides you with an expanded weapons database (entire 1900-2000 period), among other things.

www.take2store.com has it for 40 bucks. BTW, isn't WOTY simply a glorified Volume I upgraded with Volume II functionality and mechanics? If so, then you were missing out on post-1955 combat all that time :)

CoW is the end so far, everyone seems to be waiting for the next level.

A Century of Warfare, patched to ver 1.04 will be your ticket. There is a 1.06 patch out and about, but it was released with a serious flaw.

TOAW COW have many subtle, minor and some not so minor improvement in gameplay (but it's not completely bug free & perfect). One thing is here that you cannot play hundreds of excellent scenarios without COW. Operation Blau have three versions but even WOTY version looked interesting. I didn't had WOTY, only Vol 1 and then COW. And I am not interested in modern scenarios only WW2 and only German side, but I won as Allies in Market Garden. Tremendeous interdiction which affects readiness & supply http://www.warfarehq.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Nick was chosen to reflect how my thought processes work. Hmmm, not sure I Grok that myself.

Thanks to all for the compelling reasons for COW, and for why patch 1.4, but not 1.6.

... and to Bdr.Mallette for scalding my nasal passages with coffee.

Sorry to be the pedant, but it's 1.04 vs 1.06. You can do a search on this board for the main thread which discusses the problem with 1.06. I believe it was titled "Patch (version) 1.06 is seriously flawed!"

Thanks all for the quick and helpful feedback.

I've ordered my CoW and have downloaded patch 1.04 (Thank you JAMiAM) and am sifting the forum for good scenarios.

Lots of good writing here, and ample evidence of patient help for those seeking it.
