Can some of the more experienced COW players describe how they maintain control of their forces as a scenario grinds along?

I just finished my first complete scenario versus the PO, France 40, in a very long time. As the game progressed, divisions became intermingled as enemy units evaporated and friendly forces advanced. This was surpassed by corps becoming disorganized/intermingled once breakthroughs occurred.

When Paris was finally encircled, I examined the friendly units present and there had to be individual units (or onsies and twosies) from multiple corps.

Appreciate any feedback,

I'm sure you'll get better advice than this, but you know that the highlights that appear round individual units when you select them appear in gold for the particular unit, and in grey for units in the same formation?

If you're particular about maintaining formation cohesion, move or attack with the gold ringed unit, then immediately select one of the grey ones, and you'll be givigng orders to a unit from the same formation. Some scenarios are more user friendly in that the corps, or whatever, are colour-coded.

Final thought: it's very likely that in the turmoil of battle individual formations won't be able to advance shoulder-to-shoulder all of the time: doesn't mean that you're playing badly.

Just like Mark, I move units by grouping whether Dvn, Bde, Etc. It will improve your attacks also.

I sometime use the "view next unit" option to scroll through units of the same formation and give out my orders.

As said above, the gold rim highlight function is invaluable in this respect.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your posts to date. I am aware of the gold/grey highlighting, strict discipline in moving by unit would probably be best for me.

I guess the thrill of the advance blinded me and let to the cluster-you-know-what at the end of the scenario.
