A new site has been created to share Harpoon Scenario files for all versions of the game. This site is only for the storage and distribution of scenario files and tools for scenario design. There will be no message traffic.

28 scenarios are currently posted. Visit http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/FilesOfScenShare/ Membership is unrestricted.

Guidelines for scenarios are:

1) Enjoy creating it
2) Enjoy playing it
3) Enjoy sharing it
4) Enjoy helping others create them

Tips on Tactics and Scenario Design are available tables within the site's database section. A Table of Bugs is only included to help designers avoid known pitfalls and is not meant as criticism of an already excellent simulation.

No need to be self-conscious or shy. Please feel free to load your scenario to the files section so that others may test and enjoy your work. Scenarios can range from Individual Duels to Trans-Oceanic Campaigns.

We are not a dissident group nor are we trying to be divisive. We are simply a bunch of players who enjoy Harpoon in our own way. We hope that this site will encourage novice and veteran designers alike to share their ideas and files.

We encourage all members to continue discussing Harpoon-related topics on the ScenShare forum, the H.U.L.L., or HarPoint.

We also encourage all designers to submit their scenarios for publication to both Ed Ladner at http://home.infionline.net/~edladner and HarpoonHQ at http://www.harpoonhq.com. This site is not meant to compete with anyone but hopes to fill an existing void. There is presently no place to easily share scenarios either complete or under construction.

Looking forward to seeing your scenarios,

Herman Hum,
Co-Owner, FilesOfScenShare [ FoSS ]

Gorby – EC2003 MEDC - Snake Bliskin Strikes Again

Date: August 1991 - In an apparent coup, a committee of Soviet hardliners has taken control of the government. NATO and Soviet militray forces have been put on full alert. President Gorbachev and his family have been taken from their dacha in the Crimea to a merchant ship in the Black Sea where his fate will be decided by the de facto Soviet government.

Russian naval officers loyal to President Gorbachev have prepared a plan to rescue him and take him to the West to establish a government in exile and work to free the Soviet Union. The Oscar-class submarine Smolensk (nicknamed the Snake Bliskin for the character rescuing the President in the movie Escape from New York) will be the main instrument of this plan.

The South China Sea War

PRVPRC1 - The Local Bully - WestPac

The PRC has occupied one of the disputed islands in the South China Sea. Any civilian shipping that has come close to the island has been harassed by the PLAN (People's Liberation Army Navy). Lately, some fishing vessels from the Philippines have been attacked by PLAN warships and attacks against Philippine vessels have increased in the past few weeks.

Analysts speculate that the PRC has chosen the Philippines to make an example out of due to its relatively modest military forces and possibly as a warning to Taiwan of the PRC's willingness to use military force.

PRVPRC2 – When Push Comes to Shove - WestPac

The Philippines are in an uproar over the destruction of their naval task group by the PLAN. Questions are being asked as to what the true mission of the task group was and the circumstances surrounding its destruction. The President of the Philippines has stated that the task group was sent to protect its fishing fleet and the attack was unprovoked. The Philippine government has filed a formal protest.

Meanwhile, the PRC is seizing this opportunity to "flex its muscles" and to send a message of its hegemony in the region, especially to Taiwan. The PRC asserts that its flotilla was attacked and approached in a hostile manner by Philippine warships and they only acted in self defense. They have declined to comment on the outpost that they are constructing in the Parcels. Furthermore, they have pledged to retaliate against the "act of aggression” perpetrated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Philippine military installations have been put on high alert.

PRVPRC3 – A Cry for Help - WestPac

A combined air and commando attack has crippled theArmed Forces of the Phillipines. The chain of command is in complete disarray and morale is at its lowest. The population is living in fear of the Chinese and the Philippine government has appealed to the international community for help. The Chinese are continuing to make intimidating statements and promising the continued use of force to make the point not to interfere in the Parcel Islands.

The navies of neighboring countries are responding to protect civilian shipping. The closest assets are 2 frigates from Japan and South Korea on a joint exercise

PRVPRC4 – Pushing Back - WestPac

The situation in the Parcel Islands continues to deteriorate. Fire has been exchanged between Chinese and Japanese and Korean naval vessels with each side blaming the other for instigating hostilities. The Chinese are still refusing to disclose the reason for their siezure and fortification of the islands and have insisted on remaining there. In fact, they have dispatched a large occupation force as a garrison for the island. The countries around the region have decided to impose a blockade around the island.

PRVPRC5 – Fight! - WestPac

The Chinese have declared that they are unwilling to abandon their outpost and are committed to defending it. The Allied nations have resolved to launch an assault on the island.

Launch the assault and destroy the Chinese base in the Parcel Islands. Neutralize any resistance

FURY – WestPac

The People's Republic of China (PRC) has long intended to see through its policy of intended reunification with Taiwan, and often times engaged in angry warnings and military intimidation aimed at thwarting any possibility of the "rebel province" asserting independence. With Hong Kong and Macau having already returned to the embrace of the Motherland, the problem with Tawain is becoming more prominent as time goes on. And, despite an American policy of both arming, and if necessary, defending Taiwan against Chinese aggression, continuing close encounters across the straits make the danger of miscalculation enormous.
Author: Brad Leyte

ANXIETY – WestPac

The PRC missile and air attacks have pummeled our nation, causing a great deal of damage to our infrastructure and inflicting many civilian casualties. Most of our military airfields and facilities on the eastern coast have either been destroyed or captured, and consequently our remaining air and naval forces have retreated to the western side. The Americans are mobilizing to respond, and will soon begin operations in defence of the ROC. Even so, it is unclear how long we will be able to hold out, as the PRC forces have successfully conducted an amphibious landing and their troops are now fanning out across the island.
Author: Brad Leyte

SPAT IN THE SPRAT – WestPac

The South China Sea has long been a highly disputed area, and with rival territorial claims to the collection of islands and reefs known as the Spratly and Paracel islands, and potential hydrocarbon resources in the region, this is unlikely to change in the future. Unfortunately, the South China Sea is also a strategic waterway, providing a key maritime link between the Indian Ocean and East Asia. The complexity of the jurisdictional disputes and the underlying nationalism within the various states has already been a catalyst for conflict. China and Vietnam clashed over the Paracels in 1974, and again in 1988 in the Spratlys. In October 1994 Vietnam sought offers from foreign oil companies for commercial development in the disputed zone, an action which angered China and perhaps led to its seizure of Mischief Reef in 1995. Similarly, Vietnam condemned a Chinese deal in November 1997 to exploit the Ledong gas field. And, despite a treaty signed between the two states on December 30, 1999, the potential for conflict continues.
In this scenario, the discovery of vast oil resources has prompted the People's Republic of China to reassert its claims to the Spratlys. Malaysia, unhappy with the manner in which the United States has exercised its anti-terrorist policies in the region, has allied with the PRC and pledged its support in a pending joint development project. Vietnam is outraged by the PRC's change of heart and has vowed to protect its claims of sovereignty in the archipelago. Both Thailand and the Philippines have allied with Vietnam.

ROM10A1 - Ukraine Is Not the Boss of Me – EC2003 MEDC

A few years in the future... Relations between Ukraine and some of its neighbors have become strained. In particular, Ukraine has demanded that Romania stop violating its trade sanctions against other Black Sea nations like Georgia. Romania has politely but firmly replied that it will trade with whomever it pleases. Ukraine appears poised to take this quarrel to the next level...

NEW WORLD ORDER SERIES: THE CYPRUS AFFAIR CAMPAIGN #2

When the NSC made good on its promise to deliver SA-10 Grumble SAM systems to the Greek Cypriots in the spring of 1995 despite Turkish protests, the stage was set for another conflict in Cyprus. The presence of the advanced weapons shifted the delicate balance of power as it put nearly all aircraft operating from the Turkish side of the island at risk.

NATO was embarrassed when regular Turkish forces stormed the island a few months later. It had not been aware of Turkey's intent to reclaim Cyprus once and for all. Hand-in-hand with the economic boom in the NSC came military modernization and revitalization; funding for which was fueled at least partly by an unprecedented level of arms exports. The NSC would no longer sit idly by while its national interests were decided by others. It launched a major attack against Turkey on June 3, 1995.

The NSC did not believe that NATO would intervene in the Cypriot affair after having been snubbed by its Turkish partner and after the beating it had received in the Baltic conflict the previous year.

The NSC was about to be proven wrong.

#1 IMPETUS TO DISASTER

This first scenario examines the opening NSC attacks on Turkey. While Turkish forces are at full readiness and deployed in combat formations, they are primarily oriented towards the operation in Cyprus. By the time they became aware of NSC intentions late in the day of 2 June, 1995, it was much too late. Witness the power of the new Soviet military machine.

This scenario is dedicated to one of WHq's own, Marine Bryan Ott; a fine fellow and Harpoon enthusiast.

PEL10A1 - Nicobar Waltz – WestPac

A few years in the future...For reasons which are not entirely clear, Indonesia has invaded and occupied part of the Nicobar Islands.

Normally, the United States would leave the matter to India, but by unhappy coincidence, the Indonesians chose to invade while an American film company was on Car Nicobar shooting scenes for a movie. In the confusion of battle, there were a number of American casualties, including two popular young American starlets (one of them a friend of the President's own children and a frequent visitor to the White House). A few days later, an amateur video showing the bodies of Americans killed in the attack surfaced on the Internet.

To make matters worse, the Indonesians have refused to release those Americans who survived the attack; the Indonesians are holding them as hostages to prevent American involvement in the conflict. With American public opinion inflamed, the President has little choice but to act. Whether the Indians like it or not, America will be taking the Nicobar Islands back for them.

The first game of a new Battleset has been loaded to FoSS. This is an experiment in making an H3 battleset where your performance in the first game determines your starting position in the next.

FilesOfScenShare (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/FilesOfScenShare/files/Harpoon%203%20scenarios/Freek%27s%20scenarios/Harpoon4You%21/)

Play this game from either side, save the game when you have either won or when the Scenario Duration has expired, and then send me a saved game! I will look at the result of your game and Modify the second scenario in the battleset to reflect units that you destroyed or lost, ordnance expended, as well as ensure that the Victory Conditions of the next game are adjusted so that they are challenging and achievable. I might even have to adjust the storyline based on your results!

The first scenario concerns war between the Netherlands and France in 2003; two nations each with a modern Navy and Air Force and with Belgium in between them. I have three scenario's ready from the French side, and two from the Dutch side.

All games have been tested by one avid harpooner beside myself, and, unfortunately, for you, I've had to make the AI as strong as I know how to give him a good challenge!

There is, of course, no catch; I've enjoyed making these scenarios and hope you will enjoy playing them. Well... no catch... except if hundreds of people send me saved games, it might take some time to reply!

MATCHPLAY

Terrorist attacks on the Belgium Royal family have left the Dutch Crown Prince next in line to the throne of Belgium. Popular mourning and an uprising has quickly resulted into civil war between the French-speaking Walloons in southern Belgium and the Dutch-speaking Flemish in northern Belgium.

Holland has quickly moved ground forces into Belgium to assert its claim to the throne, while France has tried unsuccessfully to mobilise the UN. But as the Israelis showed in 1967, the UN cannot operate at the pace of modern warfare...

#2 MAULED BY THE BEAR

Heeding the lessons learned as an observer of the 1991 Gulf War, the NSC pounded Turkish military bases and command facilities with air strikes for the first few days of the conflict. By 11 June, most Turkish bases in the north of the country were either destroyed or severely damaged. NATO was protesting loudly against NSC actions, but as yet, no major strategic moves have been made. This scenario examines the difficulty experienced by the Turks in their attempt to defend the northern half of their country while confined to bases in the south.

Hope you don`t mind me hijacking and asking a question about harpoon?

If I`m a new player to the game, which version should I be thinking about buying? I`m confused about the differences between harpoon 3 and harpoon classic. Which is the more recent version? I remember playing harpoon classic `97 on my first PC (released by a company called 360 I think in the uk) and I loved playing harpoon on my old amiga before that.
Jumping on this website http://advancedgaming.biz/index.php?cevent=home is this the place to go. Also, I notice there seems to be talk about HC 2005, is this a new version about to be released?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the advice, Looking at the harpoon 3 demo briefly, it looks alot "older" than harpoon Classic, can I take it that harpoon classic is the newer more up to date version? I suppose I`m confused in that two products seem to be been developed by the same company, which seem, to the layman, the same product?!?!, with very little difference.

I don't know what you are looking at but here are a few screen shots that might be of assistance.

MedWar1 - is a screenshot from the Harpoon Classic Gold version
BekaaNT - is a screenshot of a contemporary display (Harpoon3)
BekaaNT Aegis Display - is how the game is displayed resembling real life Aegis displays.

As for chronology of events, the AGSI site is pretty detailed about the development history. HClassic was first but both appear to be under constant development and improvement. Not bad for a game that is 15+ years old, eh?

I think that this might be the link for the 'Demo' version.

Gents - it's time to cool this thread down please, we've had some complaints. Personal attacks on other members are against the rules and the spirit of our community. Thanks, I know you all understand.

Please lock the thread or do something moderator like. This is embarrassing and not representive of the Harpoon Community at all. These gentleman (all of them) have been taking this flame war all over the net. They have been asked on many occassions to stop. Would appreciate it if you could lend a hand.

Thanks :)

OK, I'll lock it so that everyone can put this behind them and move on.

Let's hope this is the end of it. I would be disappointed to see any further continuation of this in any future threads.
