Whats happening Katusa?

Things are going slow, I spotted a few enemy units from the distance, but I am holding fire. Looks like 3-4 companies with some T-54s are coming up.

I will report when contact is made, now it is mostly idle sitting in trenches.

The one im playing against had about 3 companies i think. I am very confused about the tactics he is using. He is allowing me to slaughter him by not only standing in the face of an onslaught but also advancing (i wouldnt call it a counterattack) towards me and engaging, allowing me to slaughter him. If he had of made a fighting withdrawal the outcome would be less devastating for him and more devastating for me. I can't figure it out, must just be inexperience or ineptitude because the terrain is perfect for defense.

Those 120 mortars should come in handy when he closes in to engage Katusa.

Tomorrow I will give you detailed update. It is finished, my force was surrounded and annihilated, but I destroyed 5 tanks and some squads.

Turn 1

Enemy approaching from South-South-East, seems like 3 companies of infantry, with supporting armor. I am holding fire, waiting them to approach and open up at once.

Mortars are trained on preregistered points, in next turn they should get some shells falling on them.

Turn 2

First shots of the battle, my DShK on the Eastern hill opened up, as well as the PKMS on the Southern road. Enemy taking a few casualties, sporadic return fire, probably from scouts nearby. I cannot see them, I hope later they would be revealed.

Mortar shells falling on units on the Govt. right flank, causing rather heavy casualties. So far they were charing like 19th century infantry, so I think they have taken a heavy toll.

However, they are more than 3 companies, maybe 5. I cannot hold against them, I think I will have to withdraw slowly.

Turn 3

More exchanges of gunfire, his shells are landing on my trenches, I started to withdarw from the first line of defense. E platoon is pulled out from right flank, nothing is coming from there, and they are sent back to secure the rear of my troops, at the roadblocks. They are stretched more to the east than expected, I hope they would not come on the road behind my left flank.

Turn 4

He probably saw my troops withdrawing, because T-54s are run ahead of infantry, trying to kill my retreating troops. I killed two of them, one of them by a skillfuly placed and hidden RPG team, the other by an infantry squad. Apparently he did not realize my infantry was carrying RPGs.

Bad news from behind, a platoon of tanks coming, I hope I can ambush them with E platoon. HQ is running for his life, I dont want to die here!

My mortars and machinguns are causing further casualties, these govt soldiers must be on drugs, they are just coming like a humanwave...

Turn 5

I spotted their HQ, an MTLB run a counterattack, and almost killed them, only 2 persons survived. They disappeared. I hope I killed the enemy commander.

The other MTLB is firng its machinegun from its emplacement, until knocked out by a T-54. Things are really going bad, their little mortars laying a very destructive fire, I am withdrawing to the mayors office.

E platoon ambushed one tank, it is burning, crew was killed after bailing out. Looks like 2+ platoon of infantry is following tanks, they will overrun my blocking force. I hope my HQ would have time to escape.

Turn 6

Things are really going bad, more casualties, machinegun crews are killed - they held out very bravely, until they were overrun.

MTLB that counterattacked was killed by bazooka hit, crew surrendered. I hope they will be taken POW and not killed.

Another tank ambushed up North, but my squads have taken some casualties as well from infantry catching up with tanks. Third tank disappeared, I dunno where it is.

Turn 7

My units are concentrated behind a treeline in front of the mayors office. They are surrounded from South, East and West, with the envelope closing from North. Third T-54 run into ambush, destroyed. Not a bad record from my infantry...

One 120mm mortar was overrun by T-54, truck was destroyed as well. Blocking force being in trouble.

Turn 8

Only about a third of my forces remained, with mortars destroyed by T-54 rampaging behind my lines and by scouts. Trucks trying to escape destroyed as well.

I will try to kill as many enemy as I can as I am completely surrounded now.

Turn 9

My last desperate counterattack. Govt is not high on morale either, at least it seems to me. My squads come out from the treeline, sort of a banzai charge, get into a wild melee with govt troops in the town centre. Heavy casualties on both sides, bullets and RPG rounds flying everywhere.

I think I will lose all my troops, but at least govt troops suffer casualties as well. My troops are faithful to the revolution to their last moment.

This battle will be remembered as one of the brightest moment of our revolution, and I hope it will inspire future generations as well. (After turn 9 game quits with draw result.)
