I need some feedback from the members. How much interest is there for a SPWaW ladder here at Warfare HQ? A lot? None? Let's hear what you have to say.

Don, I think this would be a great idea, I am in the ladder over at the Blitzkrieg club, and although I mostly campaign game solitaire, it is nice to play PBEM in a ladder! I usually have about two games going at a time, and it's fun to rise in the ranks, and meet all the folks who play this game, and hey, it's one more way to support the game too!!:D

Before Warfare HQ makes a decision on this issue I'm trying to find out how much demand there is for it. SPWaW does seem to have a decent following, however, this system is also supported by other clubs at the moment.

Warfare HQ has been following the development of Combat Leader for some time and although this game is actually unrelated to SPWaW, it's my guess that it will attract many of the same players. Warfare HQ has long had plans to support CL when the time comes, thus our close relationship with Matrix Games. Our thinking is that a good way to get a head start on CL is by supporting SPWaW in a combined section. This idea may or may not have merit. We're trying to see just how much demand there is for it. We've started several sections in the past that seemed like a good idea, but actually received very little support from the members. Squad Battles being a prime example.

One reason I have my doubts about this effort is that I have tried on numerous occasions to get a competant wargamer to volunteer to be the Section Leader if such a section was created. It's not easy to find gamers who would make a decent addition to the staff. For starters, the volunteer needs to be experienced with the game system in question. Second, they really are not all that useful if they don't have some basic html skills and a bit of computer savy. Third, they need to be reliable and willing to contribute a lot of free time to the webpage. I usually get three or four volunteers per year, but most of the people that would really make quality staff insist on being paid and we don't do that. The staff members fund Warfare HQ out of our own pockets and we get nothing in return. Paying someone is out of the question.

Well wait and see how many people respond to this poll.

I enjoy SPWaW and im on the website almost constantly but I dont have expertise in it. Warhorse was on the design staff. I think he is the best choice.

Well, I could offer advice, or point a finger in the right direction if I didn't have an answer for a question, but unfortunately I know NOTHING about websites, html, or any of that. Time is also a limiting factor, since I'm helping to develope Combat Leader, and have various other projects running at the same time!!:)

Although I think it would be a good idea, my limited free time prevents me from participating in most ladders. I have seen many SPWAW players on different forums and IMHO most seem to pick a site and frequent that one exclusively. Obviously there are exceptions but they seem few in number. Matrix has its regulars while the Blitz has its regulars and so on and thats where they seem to stick. They are almost completely separate groups at each site where most don't even know those on the other side of the fence.

I think the only way to bring more SPWAW players here for the long haul would be by doing something the other sites are not. I wish I had found this site when I first started working on my multi-player campaigns concept. I would like to have had the chance to contribute and had some extra support (i.e. a forum and some webspace to post materials) before I got too busy!

On the topic of A Steel Panthers Ladder for WarfareHQ. Do you think people would prefer to use primarily random/quick battles put together by players for the Ladder only or have the added bonus of some specially designed scenarios thrown in/available to spice things up? I might have some ideas ;)

Usually, the ladders are open for endgame reports from any type of scenario or campaign game. Tournaments and Combat Campaigns are a different story though. Those usually have scenarios slected by the person running the event, or there is a list of some type that participants can choose from.

The multiplayer aspect is not really a factor in the ladder. That mostly pertains to the "Combat Campaigns" which are more like team tournament games. Most Ladder games are basically just your regular 1 on 1 PBEM games.

I have made some data entry errors in the ladder and have to redo part of it. It should be back up to date in a day or so at most. Thank you for your patience.

I would like to have a go at a ladder - new experience.

Someone has to be the small patch of trodden down earth that the ladder rests on, and I am happy to volunteer for that job!

New results posted on the ladder pages. Seems Galka is top dog for the moment. I know a couple of his victories have come over me

Fortunately I have managed to hurt my opponents enough to gain some valuable points - just before I get squashed :dead:

Galka is a tough opponent and after some more practice I might just ask him for another go round. ;)

I think having the campaigns and tournaments will generate some more interest in a ladder. It just takes time for people to get started posting their results for a ladder. Also, with a ladder, some people get discouraged and drop out, but most just play for the enjoyment (at least I do). I will start posting my games here.
