Gents,

We have found a solution to issues some users have had with ATI video cards and Raging Tiger or Armored Task Force. In the past, the only way to fix this problem was to disable hardware acceleration manually every time you wanted to run Armored Task Force or Raging Tiger. But no more!

Here are the steps to use this file:

1. Download the file at:

http://www.prosimco.com/fix_atf.zip

2. Extract the files to your ATF or Raging Tiger install directory.
3. Open the file, "fix_readme.txt". Follow the instructions to change your shortcuts.

That's it. That's all there is to it!

Thanks to all of you for your patience while we worked through this issue.

That sounds to good to be true. I will try it out now... :cheeky:

Well it still disables hardware acceleration (HA), so minimizing the game will have other programs run slow. Not closing the game normally leaves HA disabled. Worst, if HA was disabled before you start ATF like this then it will be involuntarily enabled afterwards.

I still say avoiding ATI video cards is the much better option.

RT works fine with my ATI card. (Radeon 9600XT)

Red,

Have you had hardware acceleration not re-enabled if the game crashes? I have tested for that contingency and it seems to still re-enable hardware acceleration, even in the case of a crash to desktop (which I had to MAKE it do, as it doesn't crash naturally, after this patch).

If your hardware acceleration is normally disabled, you shouldn't NEED this fix, as we have no reported cases of graphical problems while hardware acceleration is disabled (the ATF engine is 100% compliant with the DirectDraw standard, its some hardware that is not).

I am not trying to be defensive. I just want to make sure no one is having problems with this fix. It worked perfectly for us.

Sorry, I meant when the computer goes down without exiting ATF.

I'm just grumbling that lousy drivers require this kind of hack in first place. Except nobody takes it into account when buying hardware...

This also works with NVIDIA cards to turn-off acceleration. I can now do what I need to do without a problem and without having to change settings!

Thanks Patwick! I wuv you! :crosseye:

I was under the impression that the games have no problem running with NVIDIA cards or is it only some of them?

Also, despite the particular type of graphic card in your system is it best to run the games with acceleration turned off or on?

Uh, I trashed my ATI and got a NVidia card and have no problems ever since then. This is not needed for NVidia for any drivers I tried.

The bug is in the ATI drivers, it is unlikely NVidia repeats them.

NVIDIA posted new drivers for all it’s cards on it’s site yesterday.

Well, for my NVIDIA Goforce 5200 in my laptop, having hardware acceleration on gave me beaucoups errors while I was creating Raging Tiger. I do all of my development and playing at 1600x1200 and at 16bit color. This fixed fixed MY problem of having to disable hardware acceleration each time I wanted to work on or play RT. Of course, I also know Pat was working on stabilizing the code, and that helped as well, so I'll do a test without the fix and leaving Hardware acceleration on and see if I get errors.

Curt,

I'll save you the trouble. There is no change to the Raging Tiger code. Unfortunately, this fix will be the only way to solve the problem until Air Assault Task Force is released.

Well, it does what I wanted it to do,...it makes everything run smoother without hardware acceleration and turns it off then on for me, because everything else I do on my system requires hardware acceleration.

the only issue I have with ATF/RT is it not running at 32bit colour - as soon as I swap to 16bit, no issues whatsoever.
