View Full Version : Curtiss Hawk III?
In a scenario I am in the process of designing (Yang Dang Khum 41), the source that I am basing it on states that there was a Curtiss Hawk III fighter-bomber assigned to direct support of the Thai forces. There is no such aircraft in the TOAW equipment list, that I can find. Can anyone shed some light on if it is there, and if not, what an appropriate replacement would be?
Thanks!

The Curtiss Hawk III was the export version of the BF2C-1. It differed from the US Navy fighter-bomber in reverting to the wooden wing structure of the F11C-2 (spruce beams with plywood webs and spruce ribs) and having a Wright SR-1820F-53 Cyclone.
Found this in a random google search...
Don't have the equipment list here at work, but does TOAW have the BF2C-1?
Picture of the Curtiss Hawk III (one of the Siamese ones actually) http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=392600&WxsIERv=Q3VydGlzcyBIYXdrIElJSQ%3D%3D&WdsYXMg=VGhhaWxhbmQgLSBBaXIgRm9yY2U%3D&QtODMg=SW4gQmFuZ2tvaw%3D%3D&ERDLTkt=VGhhaWxhbmQ%3D&ktODMp=SnVseSAyMSwgMjAwMw%3D%3D&BP=0&WNEb25u=SmVyb2VuIHZhbiBMb2lq&xsIERvdWdsY=&MgTUQtODMgKE=VGhlIG9ubHkgSGF3ayBJSUkgZmlnaHRlciBsZ WZ0IGluIHRoZSB3b3JsZA%3D%3D&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=NTAx&NEb25uZWxs=MjAwMy0wNy0yOA%3D%3D&ODJ9dvCE=&O89Dcjdg=&static=yes&size=L
Unfortunately there is a real lack of Inter-War US planes in TOAW, so it's a bit tricky to pick a substitute from the default selection.
Either the german biplane Hs123 or the Hawk 75 (later monoplane development of Hawk III) is some options.
Hmm... I didn't realize it was an American aircraft. I assumed it was British, according to my source the Thais used mostly British and French equipment, being next door to both nations' colonies.
My source also stated that the Thais bought "some" Japanese aircraft prior to the war, in order to modernize their air force. Maybe I'll use an early Japanese fighter-bomber.
Thanks!

It was an export design. 24 Where delivered to Siam (Thailand). I'd use Bi-plane (late) to represent it.
