I've never seen anything like this before. There were 3 incidents, each more incredible than the last.

1st> After a successful pocketing and evap, there were several (admittedly tired) Axis units in the mountains in the Caucasus region. A Russian counter attack cleared the hex. That's not so unusual, but almost all of the Axis defenders evapped, when they had movement left and room to retreat. :( Ok.

2nd> A 7-8 Mech korp, fortified, with 100% readiness & 150% supply was ousted from a hex by >>6<< points of attacking Russian infantry.

3rd> 45 points of defence, fortified, all at 90-100% readiness and supply (2 armor, 1 heavy mech, 1 mech, 2 infantry korps, 1 marine, 1 HQ) almost all fled a hex attacked by 2 smallish mech corps, 2 NKVD units, 5th Abn corp, 2 small garrison units and 1 HQ. What's that, a maximum attack of 20? Granted, the Reds suffered a couple evaps in that attack, but the fact that they damned near won? :surprise:

Jason's left for the weekend, and I hope he doesn't read this when he gets back. He'll split 4 of those irregular units into 1/3rds and destroy my entire line... :whlchr: :hurt: :dead:

Raver is becoming an expert at playing the Russians. Maybe we should start calling him Generalissimo.

at what turn are you (are you still at 115 shock) ?? Is it winter and the germans are at 80 shock ? Did your fighters were on AS and in range to support the defenders of the hexes ? Were your bombers on CS ? Did the russians got more than 1 combat round of attacks ? (the first to dig out your defenders followed by the main attacks) ?

Especially if the russian airforce (maybe with support by longe range british bombers) was part of the attack it is more likely that your units retreat.

I know my way around in EA, that's why I was so shocked at the outcome! Answering in sections:

99, so yes, still have the shock bonus.

It's May 18th, 1941.

Did your fighters were on AS and in range to support the defenders of the hexes ?

All fighters in theatre were on AS, and local AS should be bordering on air supremacy in the location in question.

Were your bombers on CS ?

Oddly enough, alot were, as I was expecting action this turn. Just not there. (Yes, in range).

Did the russians got more than 1 combat round of attacks ? (the first to dig out your defenders followed by the main attacks) ?

No. All done in 1 round.

Especially if the russian airforce (maybe with support by longe range british bombers) was part of the attack it is more likely that your units retreat.

Even if I had no air, they shouldn't be able to touch those numbers. (Not in one round, with units as 100%!) Crazy! This is why I'm so blown away.

All I know is if I don't take out Moscow this year, those damned Russians are gonna give me nightmares... Never mind Berlin, they'll be in London and Washington by Spring '43...

This wasn't even CLOSE to a 1:1 attack. With the effects of fortifying, this was more like a 1:10 attack! Amazing. (Maybe Raver only PRETENDED to purge his officers in the 30's!)

than the russians got really lucky because in my game vs. Dan (up to turn 124) most of my sparely counterattacks were unsuccessful or at least very costly in terms of lost light rifle squads.

At least you can be assured that the soviets lost some turns of ligh rifle replacements in these attacks and that the attacker are probably in red supply right now. (= prey)

I have to agree with Kraut. None of my counterattacks against you accomplished anything substantial other than inflating the body count.

That's why I'm blown away. But yes, this attack has me smacking my chops and eyeballing Lenningrad. His remaining units are mostly in the yellow, so it's not so much that as the ones that evapped.
