I would like to try Russia first, since they are quite passive

Thats fine.
If you haven done so, it is important that you read all the houserules in the briefing.
I suggest that we do not play with the german bully options.

I am going to Finland for Air convention on the 14. and will be back around the 20. so we will have a slow start, but i'll try to get the first turn done before I go.

Agreed. I read the background material already, there seems to
be fewer houserule for Russian side than the German, at least
at the beginning. I also like to keep thing simple, as you
already pointed out.
