View Full Version : Database editing
There are all these diffrent tanks/aircraft/artillery pieces, but the infantry squads are the same for all.
So I was wondering if there are any 'spare' slots to be used to do the following:
In order to properly simulate multi-nation wars, one could edit the database so that it would include infantry squads for several nations. Foe example; Soviets and Allies are in a war against Germany. Right now they both draw replacements from the same pool, and the only way to simulate the fact that russia had far larger manpower, is to make the allied units have lower priority for replacements, or make them use HRS instead of RS or something along that line. Nevertheless, they still 'use' the soviet manpower(or soviets use allied manpower). Now, could the database be edited(I know there is a program for it) so that it would include for example:
-Soviet HRS
-Soviet RS
-English HRS
-French HRS
-English RS
-French RS
etc.
It all dependes on how much spare slots(or how many slots can be 'replaced') there are.
So anyone with some experience...can this be done?
And to second question; can you stop individual equipments from being produced trough the event engine?

I don't think there are many, if any, spare slots in the TOAW database. But you could use the BioEd to alter what is there and produce exactly what you are talking about. Just delete out the equipment you know you aren't going to use in your scenario. It would be interesting to have, say, a really refined WW2 or WW1 database with country specific & type of squads.
Second question: you can stop production on one type of equipment, but it has to be set to a specific turn by the designer. It can't be an event caused change.

You can ask Ben Turner at tdg. He has done just what you described in his version of EA. You can find the thread here:EA thread at tdg (http://www.tdg.nu/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.pl?board=TOAW;action=display;num=1047768961)
Well, I started to edit the database, taking out all equipment past 1950. This means that I will probaply have several hundred open slots to which add new equipment. However I need some info about the common equipment which has no year in it; which to remove which to keep(will post a list later).
Furthermore, im open to suggestions to what I should add and what delete/modify.
If anyone is intrested, here's the file:
Modified exe (http://koti.mbnet.fi/cherie/ww2modified.rar)
I was bored so I did the whole job...well half of it. I deleted all post-1950 equipment. This gave a total of about 1000 empty entries.
There are 39 infantry 'equipments', and thus I could add up to 25 countries. Currently these are on my list:
-Germany
-Soviet Union
-UK
-France
-US
-Italy
-Japan
In addition I will also add 8 slots for 'minors'(Minor 1...minor 8), that makes a total of 15*39=585, which means that there's still about 500 slots for use. So, suggest what I do with those.

Perhaps come up with some specialized squads for each country...not sure what the best use of this would be, but here are a few ideas.
I think late war Soviet front scenarios could use some German squads to simulate those roving panzerfaust teams.
Maybe also make some partisan specific squads, if you care to do the research (e.g. French resistance, Soviet & German allied partisans, etc.)
Unsure of this, but what about also some special paratrooper squads?
That sounds good. Also I will probaply edit the values to reflect the better training etc. for normal squads. Need to test that properly though.
Updated, still a lot to do.
