I hope somebody can answer this question.

I'm playing a PBEM game and trying to see why there is only one file in the AAR folder titled "3.aar".

This is what I did. I started a new game "Blue player play by email" Did my moves and saved PBEM game and sent the file to the other player. I checked the folder AAR and there wasn't any file there. So I thought maybe it won't show until the actual battle is run with the other players turn.

Well I got the other players turn ran it and then input my moved save the file and sent it back to the other player. I then again checked the folder and found just one file there 3.aar.

Shouldn't it be 1.aar instead of 3.aar?

Thanks,
John

With ten viewers looking at my question about the AAR files and not one of them have a problem with it? Am I the only one with this problem about the AAR files not working? Or am I wasting my time asking these questions about DA

I don't have my DA CD-ROM with me at the hotel, so I'm not able to check this out for myself. Is there an option somewhere to "write files to an AAR" or something like that? I can't remember if the AAR feature is automatic or if it has to be turned on.

Can someone else check on this as well?

Thanks, Don for replying back. First shame on you for not having DA CD with you. But being on a honeymoon, probably don't have time to play games on the laptop

What the problem I see and I could be wrong, is that when you play against the computer or PBEM with a scenario that came with the CD and after each turn there is a file made called 1.aar and 2.aar and so on. However when you play a scenario that is made by a player be it against the computer or another player the file that is made is called 3.aar and not 1.aar.

I think that could be a problem not in playing the scenario but in trying to “Watch the AAR Tape” it looks for the first file called 1.aar if that file is missing then it won’t work.

The question I have is it “Why is it doing that”? Hell even the scenarios I made does the same thing.

John, Normally when you start a new game, the program creates a file AAR.aar which I believe is the set up file. Then each turn is called x.aar (where x is the number of the turn). I have not tried it with a PBEM so I don't know if it is working right with PBEM. It could be there is a problem with PBEM and the aar function. This will be something we will have to keep our eye on since there really is not much experience with PBEM on DA. Even with the problems we are having with DA in this tournament, this is a good things because we are getting a community involved and we are working out some of the bugs. DA appeared to be fairly stable until the reason changes made to the program. We just need to be patience and hopefully things will get worked out.

Thanks, cbelva. I thank I may know what the problem is. Your right everytime you start a new game it creates a new AAR.aar file. However it overrights the old AAR.aar when you start a new game. Plus when you have more then one scenario going it overwites the other aar. And then you don't know which aar file goes with which scenario your playing. I think that after each turn or scenario, you will have to go and create a separate folder for that file. And place that aar file in it. But the problem with that is it doesn’t know to look in a separate folder to run the AAR Playback Tape. I hope I make myself understood with what I'm trying to say.

That's may understanding. In fact, that is exactly what I have been doing--creating a file for each game's AAR once completed, or I start a new game. Yes, you have to move the aar files for the game you want to watch to the AAR folder before you can watch the replay. Maybe Col Lunsford will change that in the future.

In the mean time. I’m still having problems with the aar files. Even when I start a new PBEM I get the same issue again. It makes a new aar file but it its called 3.aar and not 1.aar or even AAR.aar. Have to wait until Col Jim Lunsford gets back tomorrow.
