Well, I've been playing TOAW for a few years now, and I'd like to try my hand at scenario design. I have about 3 or 4 ideas in mind, but they all fall apart at the first step: the map. After several attempts (including taking an existing map from a scenario and trying to edit it to focus on a particular area in greater detail), I've come to the conclusion that not only do I suck at map-making, but I'm extremely unlikely to get any better at it.

So, the new plan is to hopefully find someone who is good at map-making, who'd perhaps like to team up with me and basically make the map, while I do everything else on the scenario. I've already got all the necessary information concerning the map as well (geography, infrastructure, etc), but I just can't for the life of me, draw the damn thing. :o

If anyone is interested, you can post here, PM me or email me at v_545@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Victor

I can relate.

What kind of scenario ideas are you working on?

Well, one idea is based on a PBEM game I played with a friend. It was the Nordic Light '92 scenario, and when the scenario ended, there were several interesting situations that would be fun to play further on (pockets, potential offensives, etc). All the info is already there, but it would require maps with greater detail, focusing on certain areas. I tried to take the pocket that had formed around Helsinki as a starting point (an area the size of 8 hexes by 8 hexes), but when I tried five times, to make a new map, it didn't go too well.

Another idea would involve a modern day 'nation-building' scenario. Essentially, the idea would be that there's a fictional African nation, you invade it, occupy it, set up a government and army, and then try to make their army operate independently so that you can eventually withdraw. This would heavily use elements and ideas from Curt Chambers South Vietnam 1965-1975 scenario (the EEV value eventually forcing withdrawl of your troops, the loss tolerance, the area pacification, etc) to reflect modern realities about these sorts of missions, but with more of a focus on the nation-building aspect rather than a conventional counter-insurgency.

Then once I've played around with these, my grandest idea involves a whole series of campaigns based on Hungarian wars in the past century (everything from the civil war in 1919 to a modern day hypothetical war). This would require a map showing Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, the western part of the Ukraine, northern part of Serbia and eastern part of Austria, in some detail and would be the biggest map job of all three.

YEah, I've often thought that specific situations in scenarios woudl make good smaller scenarios. :D

That would be neat. Somewhat like what has been done with the Yugoslavia by some guy whose scenarios are at RUgged Defence.
