View Full Version : Spring is over - where is Jutland ?
There is technically early Summer, and unfortunatelly Jutland still is not finished yet. Maybe Jimm can clear the dark sky full of clouds we currently see ?

A little info on its progress would be nice. Preferably something other than "it'll be ready when it's ready", as that doesn't really help.
I'm frustrated as well, but think of it from their perspective. I'm sure they'd love to release it and start getting paid.
There's only three games I'm looking forward to;
1. Witp AE Expansion
2. Jutland
3. Supremacy at Sea
I just hope they not released all at the same time, I don't think there is enough time in world to play all of them!:crosseye:
These developers are really a odd group. They want NO communication with their customers (pre orders, etc.) at all. They must have had a bad experience at some point. Also, I thought all along that Jutland was just a new game using the same game engine. To take so long there must be some reason. Perhaps there are some new features that are yet undisclosed. Perhaps the engine is being updated. Otherwise there are only new ship models with the same features and UI as DG. Thats what I'm hoping anyway. JEESHH.....
Release dates don't mean much, just look at 82nd Airborne from Shrapnel Games it's had about 4 release dates per year for the last six years! :OHNO:
I think we'll see more than just new ship models in Jutland, we already know about subs, German air ships and there's been talk about a scenario editor of some sort.
They can take as long as they need, IMO. RJW is still VERY enjoyable. A scenario editor would make Jutland an instant classic IMO. I think Jutland is going to be much more popular anywho, just because of the more salient subject matter. As I've said before, I hope the strat AI is made more cunning. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised.

Where on earth you get that notion?
Spring is March, April and May. June 22nd is mid-summer eve.

All we can do is to wait, is it Summer or still Spring

One moment!
Official calendary start of summer in Germany is on June, 21. No fake!!!!
Come on sailors, Winter in the Northern Hemisphere starts when the Sun is lowest in our sky. In other words as far South of the Equator as it gets. That is Dec 21/22 everywhere. (Winter Solstice)
Spring starts in the Northern Hemisphere when the Sun Crosses the Equator from South to North. March 21/22 (Vernal Equinox)
Summer Starts in the Northern Hemisphere when the Sun is the highest its gets in our sky. June 21/22 (Summer Solstice) It is the same in Germany, England, the US, everywhere North of the equator.
By the way Autumn starts when the Sun Croses the Equator from North to South, Sept 21/22 (Autumnal Equinox)
The Southern Hemisphere is the mirror opposite of this

According to meteorology, summer is the whole months of December, January, and February in the Southern Hemisphere, and the whole months of June, July, and August in the Northern Hemisphere.
Now spring is over!:laugh::rolleyes::laugh::rolleyes:
Some kinda work from Norm would be nice..

What was it Mark Twain said about lies, damn lies and release dates?
It'll be ready when it's ready, let 'em take their time I say. The whole advantage of being a small independent games company is you don't have to work to publishers' release schedules.

The game is almost done!
When will it ship?
When its done!
The nice thing about the digital delivery format. When they are done with the game and release it, its available right away rather than having to wait the week or more to get it in the store.
When will it ship?
When its done!
That works for me!
All I can say is yay for independant publishing! A smalll group of developers can work on generating a good game for a niche market and (apparently) make money at it. It seems to me to be a good example of what the whole "new media" revolution was supposed to do for us.
Fine I'm not waiting I'm buying Distant Guns today so when jutland is released tomorrow you fellas can thank me!
That's the spirit! Someone has to take one for the team! TIA

The front page (at the top) now says "Late Summer", so there is an update. The lower part of the same page still says Spring 2008 though.

I'll take that. Will check in again in a couple months. thx
Just received reply to my question to developers re "late summer" status ?The reply stated that the release is "VERY CLOSE". Am eagerly awaiting game.My recollection of history of this battle was two pretty evenly matched opponents. Jim
:yummy::yummy::yummy:
Can't wait to get my Seydlitz, Thüringen and Von Der Tann to punish some British trash ships :p
oh Very Close sounds like maybe this month??
*Froth* Must have Jutland!
So ahhh.... this is the Distant Guns board. Does everyone move to a new "Jutland" board when it's released?

My guess is you would have two sub forums in the Distant Guns Forum. One for Jutland. The other for DG: RJW.
I--for one will move right over to Jutland! This englisher vs. german naval battle between two almost equal foes should be great for gameplaying! Let's see if we can alter history? Anglo-saxon interest is much greater than slav-oriental interest of DG game. What say you? Jim
Maybe so, but the relative simplicity of DG is appealing as well. No subs, no aircraft, no broken codes, just surface vessels. I will continue playing DG.
To pepsi--i'm not certain--but i don't believe the jutland battle involved any of the things you mentioned? Believe it was a straight surface ships battle.Jim
I think the subs were there, they just didn't have much of a direct impact. I believe the Germans deployed a whole line of subs to scout for the Grand Fleet and whittle it down, but they missed it entirely.
They also had a psychological impact. The Brits were worried about pursuing the HSF and being drawn into an ambush of subs and minefields.
Not completely true. The actual battle may not have featured Zeppelins and subs prominently but that was due to circumstances. In the game they will feature.
The germans on many occasions launched Zeppelins to try and spot the English fleet. I believe (but correct me if wrong) that something went wrong with communication and/or the weather which prevented the Zeppelins from taking off on time. But Zeppelins will need to feature in the game. At the same time the Royal Navy had started experimenting with launching airplanes from ships and had even launched an air raid against the Zeppelin hangars near Hamburg.
Submarines should also feature. On a number of occassions, starting in 1914, the German submarines tried to infiltrate Scapa Flow and sink a Battleship or two. The British used their submarines to try and track the German fleet. That submarines were a menace was proven when the three British cruisers were sunk of the Dutch coast by a single German submarine.
Thirdly, the British had broken the German code. If it hadn't been for that, Jutland may not have happened or on a much different scale. Basically, the Royal Navy started to raise steam at about the same time or even prior to the High Seas Fleet did so. This item certainly played a vital role.
The first two didn't play a significant part during Jutland, but they were all items available to both navies. They therefore will feature in the campaign game for sure. Secondly, in the battle itself, if some of the variables change, some of these components can suddenly come into play quite prominently. A change in the weather (which is a random variable in the DG battle scenarios) may suddenly mean that a Zeppelin spots the RN fleet, allowing the HSF to turn around before their T is crossed.
In DG, there is no code breaking, there are no airplanes and there are no subs. So, mano a mano it is :-)
Pepsi----WOW--great educational info --live and learn.Jim
Summer is almost over-quiet here--too quiet --watch out for indians over the next hill. Jim:D

In't it cool though? Also amusing is what - according to legend - happened next!
Damn... should have saved that for a "quiet here" question.
If you know, don't tell... not here anyway. I'll post that in the other thread.
:)

Just popping in for a visit guys. Any news on our beloved-it?
Thanks

Last round? great! I didn't have a clue they had gotten that far! We might actually hear something by the end of September then.:smoke:
Hmm, i should be in for testing too especially since DG doesn´t work anymore after a hardware upgrade. ;)
