Welcome aboard, Xavier! New guy buys the drinks :toast:

Thanks for the heads-up on this. It looks very interesting, although it was probably easier to read in the original Russian ;).

I might not have understood completely, but I got the impression this is a turn-based game. In fact, it appears to be very similar to Yaquinto's Ironclads in many ways.

Saw this over on the Wargamer.com forums. Looks very interesting but i'm not sure what all the flashy 3D renders are for on the game page as the models in the game look fairly simple and on a par with the Distant Guns ship models. It does look turn based too which will not attract me as I am strictly an RTS player.

The turned based aspect doesn't bother me if its a wego system like the combat mission games.

Yeah, that would be cool with me, too. But I'm not sure that's what IACW has. The broken English is hard to understand, but the impression I get is of a direct port of the Yaquinto boardgame sequence of play with orders, movement, and finally shooting phases. If that's what they mean, then you can't shoot until after everybody's finished moving. That would differ from the CM system, or even the Starfleet Battles system, both of which allow non-simultaneous firing during the course of the movement phase.

OTOH, Yaquinto's turns were 3 minutes. That worked well for the boardgame because a) that was about the max ROF of the smallest guns in the game, b) the biggest ships were about 100 yards long, which set the hex size, and c) 1 knot of speed = 1 hex (100 yards) per minute. But this IACW game's turns are 5 minutes long. Some of the guns of that era could fire twice in that timeframe, so I figure they must have gone to shooting during moving, like CM. But still, 5 minutes is a LONG time when you've got ships within 50 yards of each other trying to ram.

I've spoke with the head of this studio a couple of months before.
Right now they do not have any spare money to force their game-project.
There is no final opinion about what kind of game it could be. I mean RTS or Turn Based.

These guys do want to make a good wargame, but do not have enough resources.
They are selling their late 19th century Ironclads Encylopedia to get some income and start working on wargame.

I wish them the best of luck. I'd even buy their book to help them out, if I could be assured that it would be more readable than their web page :).

It does looks interesting. But for me the timeframe is less interesting than Jutland.

First one to WWII wins....

Looks like they'll be starting with the American Civil War. That should be at least interesting as there were a few smaller clashes. Mostly one on one or two.

Edit-Did a little research into the civil war at sea. I was wrong, the US Civil War had numerous encounters. Some hardly worthy of being called battles while others were huge with serious strategic consequences. The war at sea was fought in the rivers and along the coasts of the US of course but there was also skirmishes in the English Channel and Indian Ocean. It was the largest naval war between 1815 and 1914.

They've released a playable demo of this - you get the Monitor vs Merrimac engagement. It's a tiny little download, worth checking out:

I tried it and I'm not all that impressed by the gameplay mechanics to be honest. It's got a weird alternate move system that's totally inappropriate for naval warfare IMHO. The water looks pretty though, in fact I'd love to see the sea rendered like this in DG/Jutland...

Demo seems to be rubbish judging by the feedback over on the Wargamer.com forums - don't think I will bother with it.

Theres a new Demo out there. Seems more interesting as there are now more ships involved, some Monitors and steamers.
