Why is it not possible to capture enemy vessels in the game? During the Russo-Japanese War, many Russian warships were captured by the Japanese, even capital ships.
So what's the go here?

Good question, I have also been wondering that

But implementing that into the game is a difficult matter I think...

this would include visibly moving men from one ship to another, not to mention all the rest.

Would not have worked historically with the Japanese, they would have fought to the death, even blown up their ship with all on board rather than surrender or be captured.

It's a question of the time required. IIRC, none of the Russian ships captured by the Japanese returned to service during war. At least of cruiser size and above.

IIRC, the vast majority of the ships captured by the IJN had already been sunk; they were just in shallow enough water to raise. So first the Japanese had to do that (and in the case of Varyag, get her right-side up). Then they had to clean out all the mud, rebuilt everything that was broken, replace all the waterlogged stuff, and usually also switch out all the weapons for things that shot IJN ammo, and therefore replace all the fire control systems, too. IOW, in these cases, about all the IJN got out of the deal that they could keep was the hull itself, and even that had enough holes in it at first to be non-buoyant.

The ships captured at Tsushima were at least still afloat, but most of them were shot to Hell and that was pretty much at the end of the war anyway.

This is not correct. Coastal ironclad General-Admiral Apraksin was commissioned June 6 1905 as Okinoshima and seems have been used in the sea at the end of the war near Sakhalin island - I'm not sure, will check my library. It might be also her sistership Admiral Senyavin, commissioned same day as Mishima.

Here is nice photo of this ship:

21893

Also well known captured and reused vessel is destroyer Reshitelny, captured in Chifu and used in Tsushima by Japanese (as Akatsuki).

I do not think this feature will make much sense in the game.

I stand corrected :). Thanks for setting me straight. But I'm pretty sure that was the exception. Certainly all the ships at Port Arthur were in no shape to get back in the war very quickly.

:) No doubt it was.

Port Arthur ships commissioned:

Retvisan: 24.09.1905
Pobyeda: 25.10.1905
Peresvet: 22.08.1905
Poltava: 22.08.1905
Bayan: 22.08.1905
Pallada: 22.08.1905

None used during the war.
