View Full Version : Dismount Radius
Dismounting: If you don't like the current radius, please make yourself known on this forum, so I can get a sense of the percentage of displeasure. (Let me know if you LIKE it, as well.)
Sounds like a pollable topic to me!

imo they should be on top of the carriers, as the game is real time.
The closer the better- if I have to dig for them, then I dig...
I would like the radius smaller, but it doesn't upset me much. Though I understand everyone's issue with it. As I've said before, I'm not going to lose any sleep either way.
Take care,
Brian

As Brian had put it, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, if it remainds the same. However, if it does change, I would like to see it between 100m to 150m in radius. If its closer, then you can use the hierarchy tree to locate them.
My .02 worth of idea :D

300m disembark radius is a bit silly really, I agree with you Kevin, but still as long as I can use the tanks and IFV's for smashy smashy then I'm not going to lose sleep over it ;)

It seems to me a number of games over the years have treated infantry as an afterthought- so do you guys just play without grunts most of the time or what? Not trying to start a brawl, just curious...

In ATF, or more pointedly, Raging Tiger, you HAVE to be able to use infantry effectively, mainly due to the terrain! There are some missions where it is essential.;)

I would say they're essential to virtually every mission- yet I remember plenty of people wanting to play me PBEM games of Steel Panthers, Tigers on the Prowl, Panthers in the Shadows, etc. that were strictly armour, artillery, and CAS- they didn't even want any infantry at all. I guess it's fun once in awhile, but it doesn't feel right to me- like going to a wedding minus your pants, or something...
There are times when it can be done and it seems to fit- ATF has two missions where you have no infantry to control- Rucker's Bridge and Hunfeld- but most of the time, you just need those little guys around...

I enjoy playing with infantry, infact I see them as a very important part of a tactical battle and use them often. But with ATF the dismount distance seems to me, to take away the tactical aspect of using the infantry because they just end up too far away from where you want them and its diffcult to get them dismounted in the right position, so in most occasions they get mowed down away from the protection of their carriers.
So relating to my earlier post I just feel if I cant use them properly, at least I can rely on my armor to do the smashy smashy!!
I would like actually to see if the is a way you can get the APC's to move at the same speed as the infantry , for tactical advance purposes, effectivley combining the firepower from both armor and infantry, I would appreciate this!
On another point, how are you getting on with Raging Tiger Curt? im looking at buying that when it is released, I looked at the screenshots, and units look so much more easier to recognise and manage.
Thanks :D

If you make the infantry and the armor part of the same heirarchy and set "march speed" SOP, then the entire heirarchy will move at the speed of the slowest element.
You may have to fiddle with formations until you find one you like, though. In terms of standard "skirmish line", for example, with infantry in front and armor following, the infantry and armor needs to be separate platoons in the same company, and set company column, platoon lines. But you can't directly control which platoon goes first, so you have to check it out first and attach the right elements to the right platoon. Not a standard setup.

Hey Hub,
I use infantry whenever possible in ATF...particularly when playing scenarios with KBlucks database. I agree that it just feels like you're missing something when they're not around.
Of course, I'm an Advanced Squad Leader player, so I love infantry. :)
Take care,
Brian
I think inf are essential, not to mention %&* %#*&ed lethal!
I just finished a Soviet Invasion scenario where I set them up dismounted in defilade and they tore the OPFOR to shreads. Very nice indeed!

Raging Tiger is in Beta right now, and we are looking to start pre-order this month! So far, no major bugs in the game, and the initial response is VERY favorable! Lots of surprises!:D
Look for the demo to be released around the same time as the Origins convention (NLT 30 June, if all goes well!).
As soon as I know the dismount distance has been addressed and changed, I will order RT (assuming it's changed there as well)...
So far, no major bugs in the game...
Of course, I haven't looked at it yet. :D
