This PIAT (below) knocked out a Tiger with its first shot, sure it was only a partial pen but it did the job.. :)
In another game a Tiger was ambushed by several PIATS which peppered it with 6 hits, all of which were partials but the monster refused to die, then a 7th partial finally knocked it out.
The moral? - partials can kill any tank even if the firing weapon can't get a full penetration.
BTW, Because PIATS fire a round propelled by a cartridge, they have no smoke backblast to give away their position, which is a great advantage over the smoky rocket-firing schreck and bazooka..
In fact PIATS don't go whoosh at all but have somehow gatecrashed this Whoosh thread..

In this game the American infantry in left background walked past the clump of trees where a schreck guy was hiding without checking it properly first.
Bad call.. the schreck simply popped up and let fly at the tank pointblank..

Bazooka

This pic below was captioned "bazooka near Bastogne", you can just make out a guy in a cosy position on the right, his rifle is propped up and the bazooka barrel can just be seen pointing down the road

Panzerfausts are worth mentioning in this thread because they go whoosh too, they're available from Sept 1943 in the standard 30-metre range variety but in Oct 44 60-metre and 100-metre versions were introduced..
The number in their data refers to their range in metres (plus a 30k version which is a lightweight 30)
The test below shows a 100 clobbering a T-34/85 at 96 metres range, not bad..

Hi POS - it was actually a big mothering spring iirc.
I was lucky enought to see one - I was taught British Army WWII Infantry tactics when I was a teenager - used a Bren, a Lee Enfield, a Sten, and Webley as well - no round for the PIAT though, just cocking...! Never saw a Tommy gun, would love to have as they were meant to be really well manufactured.

Incidentally the PIAT's spring was re-cocked by the recoil of the previous round, but sometimes it didn't re-cock and had to be cocked manually; that's modelled in CM and you'll sometimes notice a long reload time.
"When fired the recoil recocks the spring, unfortunately in the case of a misfire or if the weapon is not properly braced the spring must be recocked manually. This spring was the worst feature of the weapon, it takes a 100kg pull over 0.6 meters to cock the weapon. The procedure used to cock the spring was to stand on the butt plate and pull with both hands, in combat standing is not a popular position with the result that the gunner had to attempt this laying on the ground"

RIFLE-GRENADE IN ACTION
(they go pop rather than whoosh)
These shots are from an actual game-
1 - I put this German halfsquad here simply as a forward observation post to report on enemy movements, note the minimum-arc (15m) to stop them firing and giving away their position.
However, a T-70 comes trundling down the road and to my surprise they fire a rifle-grenade at it (the arrowed small grey airborne dot)
2 - The first one misses but this second one hits.
3 - Scratch one T-70!

Looks like yer gonna have ter get yerself another tank Charlie..

Tactical notes -Interestingly the guys fired outside their infantry-arc at an armoured target, maybe they thought it was too good a chance to miss.
Note the range was 39m, that's about par for the course with rifle-grenades, I've never seen one fired at more than about 40m
Below - Rifle-grenades

Fausts will also fire outside their arcs-
In this test a German squad is equipped with 4 x fausts (ringed in white)
(black line is its broken HQ link)
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/faustsa.gif
I order the T-34 to roll forward on 'move'. When it comes within range (30 metres because these were Pzfaust-30's),the squad immediately fire a faust at it (grey dot) even though it's outside the arc.
(For the record the squad fired all 4 fausts during the turn,1 penetrated but did no damage, and the other 3 missed)
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub2/faustsb.gif
I re-ran the test but this time I put the squad on 'Hide' and it didn't fire.
Moral- if you want your units to hold their fire, slap a 'hide' on them.
