This test shows that the CM program won't allow tanks to area-fire closer than 20m to friendly infantry which is comforting to know..
I also ran it again with 105mm Stugs but surprisingly it's still 20m despite the bigger blast.
I haven't yet run it with small or very large guns.

So we shouldnt fire a SturmTiger anywhere near our own infantry then.

I wouldn't even fire that siege weapon against ENEMY infantry --- it is atrocity! :D

...for this!

A couple of years ago I played a game against Jay and could not understand how his HE rounds could fire all the time while his infantry was point blank poring fire into my units...

In 6 years of playing (2001-2007) I have always kept my infantry well away from my HE rounds' impact area to avoid blue-on-blue casulties.

Yes mate, the 20m buffer gives some protection but it can also work against us like in this pic, the Russki tank is ordered to fire with his main gun at the German in the house, but he refuses to carry out the order because there's a Russian squad only 18m from the German (ie inside the 20m buffer)
It doesn't matter if the tank is ordered to direct fire or area-fire, he still won't do it, although he will use his MG's only.
The moral?-don't hug the enemy too close or your tanks won't fire HE at him..

Cor...for me the opposite has been true - I tend to have my armour too far away from my infantry.

There is still loads about the game engine I know little about - your posts on here are invaluable... :)
