View Full Version : Ufo
Nope not the Rock band but an Unidentified Flying Object.
While having a battle just outside Vladivostock (spelling?) I had a UFO fly past.
Anyone else seen anything odd while playing?
I noticed F6F fighters flying around few times.
Something like easter egg by Dev's i guess. ;)
Yes , I saw it zip past .....didn't know what it was !
I saw it too, but only when I had the trial version of the game.
I've only seen this once. I'm wrestling with the single screen shot I have of it to get it posted. I saw it about a year ago and did Ctrl-Print Screen and pasted into Word. I'm attaching a poor quality shot of it.

I just saw it in my game. A neutral transport was running away from a Russian Auxilary Cruiser and then I see this grey shape flying through the air. I got some great screen shots of it.

<As General Bullethead steps to the podium at the press conference, the babbling of the reporters dies away. Flashbulbs begin to fire.>
"Good afternoon, gentlemen. Thank you all for coming. I'll get straight to the point.
"As you know, there have lately been a number of reports of strange objects, or UFOs, sighted in the skies. Some have even been photographed. This has led to much irresponsible speculation verging on panic. My department was thus called in to investigate.
"Our top photo evaluators have studied these purported UFO photos in exhaustive detail and have reached the unambiguous conclusion that all can be readily explained by mundane phenomena. Some are weather balloons, some are artifacts of the lighting conditions, some are flaws in the film and/or the development process, and some are outright hoaxes. In this present case, the so-called UFO is actually a commonly available childrens' toy cleverly staged in the foreground to appear to be a large, distant object."
The reporters had been murmuring with increasing volume throughout this speech. The words "cover-up" and "conspiracy" could be distinguished amidst the general low roar. Suddenly, one of the reporters interjected, "But General, I've taken a copy of this photo to every store in town and none of them has a toy looking anything like this!"
General Bullethead looked to his right and nodded curtly to someone offstage. Two men in dark suits and sunglasses entered the audience, grabbed this reporter by the elbows, and frog-marched him out of the room. He returned by himself a few minutes later, with a glassy, unblinking eyes, and brightly repeating to those around him, "It's just a toy, it's just a toy."
Meanwhile, the conversation had turned to other topics. After some hesitation, another reporter slowly raised his hand and was recognized by the General.
"Uh, General, besides these so-called UFOs, there have also been reports of unidentified aircraft. Can you give us any information on those?"
"Certainly. Those are just regular TBM Avengers out on routine training flights from the naval air station at Miami. Nothing to worry about there."
The reporters looked at each other. What naval air station at Miami?
The general continued, "Now, gentlemen, this concludes the press conferrence. Again, thank you all for attending. Please follow the men in the dark suits, who will escort you off the base."
TBM Avengers?!? In an era when man had just barely (1 year old) mastered controled motorised flight???

So the bermuda triangle has relocated to the Sea of Japan? Spooky. As long as the Avengers don't think its WW2.

No but they do have the Dragon's Triangle.

I know the story. But they're 40 years early! Unless your officer is implying that we now know what happened to them :-)
I thought it was an observation balloon at first. But I now know that it is something more sinister as a general issued the denial.

Well, everybody in the RJW times knew that UFOs were real, thanks to that whole episode with the Martians invading back in the 1890s. The general was concerned, therefore, to keep people from panicking over thinking that the Martians were coming back.
At the same time, in a world with UFO aliens, something as mundane as terrestrial aircraft from the future experiencing a timewarp is only to be expected now and again. IOW, in this world, there's a generally accepted scientific reason for harmless periodic phenomena like the "Flying Dutchman". Hence, the airplanes are no big deal.
Besides, if all else fails, the general could use alien mind control, salvaged from the Martian invasion, on all the reporters :D
For the love of god, what is it

Well, I am certainly no expert on these things but it looks like some obscure, Unidentifiable, Flying Object to me.

It's a UFO. It and Flight 19 have a chance of showing up in any tactical battle, just for a laugh. When the game 1st came out, the odds of this happening were very high--the UFO used to appear in about 1/3 of all battles, Flight 19 somewhat less often. But after a week or so, after Norm had had his fun, he turned the odds WAY down, so you hardly ever see them anymore.
Hmmm...I wonder what will show up in Jutland. The Flying Dutchman maybe?
