Last night, I witnessed a pretty intense battle right outside the space station I call home. I'm not entirely sure of the facts, but it got me thinking about a few things.
The battle was between a pirate in a battleship and four or five other guys from the local area. I warped in in the middle of it, and so I only caught half the trash talk on the local channel. The local guys were accusing the pirate of using some type of illegal account. I believe they were saying he had only been playing for a month or two, and that there was no possible way he could have afforded the equipment and ship he was using.
The pirate was actually somewhat friendly, but he managed to run off several pretty large ships and destroy several others before the local guys finally decided to retreat.
Are illegal accounts a big problem in EVE? Does the company take active steps to combat this type of thing or are there a bunch of disruptive personalities flying around in top-of-the-line ships that they bought on ebay, destroying the experience for legitimate players?
I also noticed a huge amount of spam on some of the chat channels, most of it trying to sell ISK and stuff. Don't they try to block this spam?
