View Full Version : PA Breakout
The Russian fleet has finally sailed, and I was caught flat footed. I had to try and stop them, but my BB's and AC's would take time, to catch them, it was up to my PC's and a couple of AC's scattered around Tsushim straits to bring them to battle, I realized that I was sending them to certain doom, but I needed the Russian fleet held up, and more impotantly to use up their ammunition.
My first squadron to make contact, was Asama, Chiyoda, and 3 PC's valiantly engaged the BB's. all 5 vesels were lost, for only light damage to the Russian squadron. Asama sufferd a hit to the bridge which killed the captain and all crew there early on. The other PC's did not fare much better
The next engagement was a night battle, initially, my ships believed they had blundered upon the Russian DD's, but it soon became apparent, that the BB's were in close company with them. I turned my squadron of 4 ships 90 degrees to to attack head on, in line abreast, my 2 AC's were at the rear of the line, and initially engaged the Russian DD's, but soon turned their attention to the BB's. Otowa was hit and had her rudder jammed to starboard, while the Russians concentrated thier fire on Nisshin, my ships roughed up Pallada. Kasuga came through this initial fight with light damage and found herself between the Russian DD's and escape, that night she became a destroyer Zerstorer, claiming 4 DD's, and being the sole survivor that night.
My third engagement, finally my heavy units had caught up, but to the stragglers, Clippers, Armoured Gunboats, and TB Gunboats. Additionley 2 minlayers were in close proxomity, but making 18 knots, whilst the stragglers were making 11 knots. How I did not run in to them earlier I don't know.
I put on full speed, determined to destroy this petty fleet, my AC's surged ahead of the BB's making 21 knots, and I systematically started to pound away at the tail of the wretched fleet.
I sank all 11 vessels, and now am after the mine layers, wether I catch the BB's or not, is in the hands of fate, and my stokers and engineers.
Did I achieve victory, I did I think, of sorts, the loss of the gun boats and clippers, not to mention the DD's has robbed the Russians of recon, and Pallada will be in the dock yard for some time. Moreover, I now have only one sea area to patrol, and can move my main fleet down to Tshushima straits and await the arrival of the 2nd Pacific Sqn.
But to balance this out I have lost 4 AC's and 3 PC's, good vessels, that would have been valuable in the fight against the raiders.

Nice show.
I especially liked reading the text in the shots. I noticed in the 1st batch that Naniwa fired a torp just as she started to sink.

It's the middle picture in the right column of the 1st post. The 5 line of text from the top is that Naniwa is sinking, and the line just above that, as in just after, at what appears to be the same moment in time (can't quite read the numbers) is when she fired a torp at Sevastopol.
Damm, one last swipe at her tormentors.
