View Full Version : A new units file for Campaign Waterloo
I have done a whole new units file for Campaign Waterloo, designed to go with my scenarios. Currently it is set in my Four Days in June scenario, posted at the Blitz. Soon to be ready for almost completed Waterloo-Wavre scenario, which I'd like to playtest. It is also intended for my Ligny/QB scenario, posted here, but I have yet to plug it into the oob.
Any interst?...It is a large file.
Siebel, unseren Uffz, some copying, and some original "art" went into it.

Hi there,
looks good. Thanks for the hard work!
I have another flag-taste. My aim is it to paint every individual unit with its own national sign (french/ prussian eagle...british crown...) or monograms and its individual flag.
A really big unit.bmp could be a collection of every existing unit (depends of the campaign...) of f.e. France, Prussia, Britain, from the 1. Reg. Inf.+ Cav.+Art. to the last Inf.+Cav.+Art. Reg. of every involved nation, maybe with some "what-if"-units like the Austrians and Russians, which were on their march to France 1815 too.
You must have more information about flags than I do. I feel that the small space available for depicting flags in a visually appealing way makes showing alot of detail impractical.
My idea for flags is to show nationality for the Angle Allies and Prussians, and proficeincy for the French and Prussians. Except for Lambert's brigade, all units subordinate to the same lowest commander are in the same pose, to alleviate Kommand Kopfweh when they route. (The bottom panel in the unit box shows complete subordination.) As much as possible, brigades and divisions have been grouped in similar style poses (or wear greatcoats) to help as well.

Of course I have some old and new books about the flags or the background of them, especial for the German states like Prussia, Brunswick, Hannover etc.
I avoid it to use an individual flag of a f.e. known infantry regiment with its individual regimential color for all other infantry, cavalry and artillery units of this nation because it would be simply historically wrong.
But I know too: There's no accounting for taste.
Ok, it is a comprehensible argument to use one pose of a unit for a whole brigade or division to prevent "Kopfweh" :)
But in my opinion it makes it easier too for the enemy/ playing partner with this knowledge to identify the organisation of my troops and my possible key aspects of activity.
Example: (head looking left: 1. Brigade / head looking right: 2. Brigade .....etc.) => "ok, I can see three left looking and one right looking units in front of me.... I can not identify the units but the chance is high that I have the first AND the second brigade of the xy division in front of me....."
On the other hand an individual unit picture does not prevent the identification....but it makes an individual identification more difficult.
(Would it be not be a adequate support in a own chaos phase to use the toggle "View / Division colors"?)
Another argument: When this unit with its pose "A" was in another battle in another division, you would have to paint it in another pose "B" again?
But again, I know: There's no accounting for taste.
So lets feed our hobby-horse....:)
