Taking sign ups for this winter wonderland massacre. Consisting of three battles all in extreme winter conditions...Kind of what I am living in.....
One battle is and Assault, one a Defence and One is a meeting engagement.:OHNO:

This is not for the faint of heart or slow of returns.....Must be finished by April 1, 2008. A/D games could me mirrored and this would speed things up. See under tournaments some limited parameters with more to come.

Quick battles but hey i will copy and paste them here.:crosseye:

This snow bound tournament consists of series of battles all taking place in the winter time. These battle are to be generated by the CM engine with the following parameters in place. They may be played by players in any order they wish, but all must be completed to recieve the final prize,[to be announced at a later date] and the honour of being know as the "King of Snowmen". The battles are to be short, having the individual untilize his troops in winter conditions to the best of his ability. The total points will detemine the winner....NOT the % percent win or lost of a game! There will be no draws using this method, or very unlikely chance of one. The armies picked will be between both players, hopefully coming to an agreement, and getting their favourite one to utilize. CMAK or CMBB either maybe used as long as all agree to the type to be played. I will make rulings if there is any lack of agreement.[I am sure this will not happen] Once you pick an army it may be change in between battles.
BATTLE # 1: Assault in the snow Parameters...Dec. 1944, Combined Arms with a Unrestricted Nationality, Medium Quality and Fit men having No Casualties. Full Ammo, a 1000 point game on a Medium map, with No Handicap or Rarity. The Time is Dawn, on a Frozen Snowy and Windy climate. 22+ turns with a Village Map, Moderate Trees and Hills and NO Damage. Fog of War on Full.
BATTLE #2: Defence in the snow Parameters... same as above. Can be a mirrored game if you wish. Or played with differnt armies.
BATTLE # 3: Meeting in the snow Parameters.. same as bove except for Unrestricted Quality, January 1944, 2000 points, Midday, Extreme cold, Blizzard and Strong Wind, Rural Map.

Yes if at all possible...the a/d battles would be small say 24 turns at the outside. The ME could go 28 turns. Well I may be pushing it a bit but after the last tournies that went way to long i want a tight ship this time. :smoke:

Definitely have a strictly enforced deadline for completion - the previous tournaments were way too generous in that respect, which just led to things getting drawn out and eventually losing focus...:stop:

As much as i admired Palantir's tourney efforts and his amazing scenarios, i was disappointed at how slowly the COG tournament progressed (and now appears to be dead in the water).

the battle sizes look perfectly do-able, so i can be ready to rock n roll by early next week (out of town this weekend).

Ok you guys quite whining about the weather. I got up the other morning after shoveling my drive of about 5 inches of snow.....open my door in the morning to 18 inches boys shoveled the car out and came home to a work out.

As for the tourney it will start monday with or with out another player..check sunday to see who you may be playing.....

It's between 30-50 minutes, but I tell you the college kids of Mass Ave are trying to get killed. Driving between MIT and Harvard is a nightmare. All the morons must have gotten in by bribery. Mixes well with the homeless guys camping on the street, too.

Also, here you have gags like huge snowstorm and Boston/Cambridge clear the roads but the state of MessyChusetts doesn't clear the interstates. So we just stand on the clean city streets. For 6 hours. Every year at least once.

Can't understand how a former gov. of MA can't be branded unusable for life :)

Well the matches have been set and the players will have to hustle and maybe play more then one game at a time. I am pushing to have this finish as close as possible if not before. the A/D games are only 1000 points 22 turns and the meeting 2000 at 24 turns or so. :smoke:

The gist of the problem was that the service providers went about trying to reduce the spam that comes through. Thier method was to block a port that most spam used. Problem was that this port was used for sending messages. Smart of them.

I called comcast and they were completely useless, finally directing me to take my case to microsoft. Comcast wasn't smart enough or didn't care enough to tell people to change the port for outgoing mail. Whether they informed their CSRs or told them to not say anything abou it, who can say.

I finally did a google search with keywords to the effect of can't send but can receive and found some useful hits.

I changed my port to 587. See if that helps. It was the cure for me.

ya turns out comcast sent me an email over the weekend, but it went to my junkmail folder. anyway apparently while i was off with a buddy gambling, drinking, and ogling women in Reno for a guys weekend, my wife opens some junkmail and wammo... that's what i get for having fun heh :drink:

anyway for all you comcast people, just follow the link embedded in the e-mail which takes u to the comcast website, and you will end up changing your outgoing port to 587, and you will check the box indicating you will authenticate future e-mails.

don't know if Thunderbird is better than Outlook 2003, but might be worth checking out per Taktik. i would have to be able to export my address book tho

Number's only workout is bringing the nice Sergeant Major some hot cocoa after he's done the driveway and sidewalk :laugh: Now if you want to see some real cold, real snow and real work out's you'll have to head to western Canada, come on down to Okimaw's hood :devious:

i don't know what u guys are complaining about, here in northern california, the thermometer dropped to almost 35 degrees F, with light rain and wind gusts of almost 25 mph! :hissyfit:

Both of my games with Antoni are about half way through. In the assault/defend, I didn't see any of his troops until about turn 10.

In our ME, he surprised me with a Tiger. According to my intelligence sources, the Tiger is Crack. (Maybe all infantry think Tiger crews are crack.) Anyway, he calls the crew Crap. Point blank range, it couldn't hit my Sherman, or HT.

This is from about 60 yards, or so.

The Sherman chipped some paint, got a gun hit and a track hit, but didn't do any damage. Two Bazookas emptied all their rounds, and only got ricochets. We'll see what my 81MM barrage can do. I immobilized Numberz once doing it. Maybe again.

In my game against Don (Letters=Stndrtnfhr) I still haven't seen any of his troops, in our assault/defend. We just finished turn 8.

Okmaw attacking Bertram: Turn 24 of 22, things were looking pretty good until JB moved his Stugs up on my left, just out of sight of my T-34/85, the pair of Stugs turned and came into view, I got off two shots, missing badly then died. He also took out my nearby AT gun. He'll undoubtably try to roll me up before time runs out.

Bertram attacking JoeBob: Turn 14 of 22, Just getting into an exchange of fire (can't say too much at this point). He's defending with the Russians and has an IS2 ducking in and out. He had an armored car on my left but it was dispatched with a potato masher!

From what I see in my three games, the assault battle is a right off. My opponent will probably not come close to taking my flags and it appears that my assault will fail too. 22+ turns is not enough to get the job done on a medium map, at least from my perspective.

Yeah, in my experience of assault/attack games, 30+ turns is about optimum in terms of giving both sides a chance. 22+ is way too low. It'll be interesting to see how many attackers win in this tourney - very few, I would guess.

He also took out my nearby AT gun. He'll undoubtably try to roll me up before time runs out.

Bertram attacking Okimaw: Turn 14 of 22, Just getting into an exchange of fire (can't say too much at this point). He's defending with the Russians and has an IS2 ducking in and out. He had an armored car on my left but it was dispatched with a potato masher!

my battle with Stndrtnfhr is over. my assault was crushed trying to advance over mostly open terrain against his collection of flags that were in wooded terrain, and totally dug in. i had the misfortune of losing my tank exchanges as well, and suffered severe infantry losses trying to meet the 22+ turn time limit. Stndrtnfhr made very good use of a T-34 with an M16 providing some lethal lead support w/it's quad 50's. If only my shrek hadn't missed...

for the assaults i think 30 or 35+ has to be the minimum to allow your forces to properly scout forward in heavy snow, and hopefully identify strong points.

my meeting engagement game w/Taktik is past the halfway point but is only moving forward at 1 or 2 turns/week. Right now it is at somewhat of a standoff, but obviously that could change...

my defensive battle w/Betram is at a standstill, i've been sending him the same set of moves for over two weeks, but for whatever reason he doesn't appear to be getting them, zipped or unzipped. Maybe i have to post them here! :nuts:

How about,...
Take all of the scores of each his opponents, as played against other tournament participants, and create an average for each of them. That would be the score for each of his opponent's, in his missing games.

Say, his first opponent was player A. For Player A's other two games, get an average score for A, and that would be A's score for that game.

Also, my game with Stndrtnfhr isn't quite finished yet (but very nearly). Seeing as he's totally kicked my arse, he would indeed seem to be a prime candidate for winner: however, I've only played two games and would still like the satisfaction of playing the third (which in my case is defending, surely the easiest of the three...)

For the purposes of the tournament, you would play for points, I would play ... to play. I already have three games worth of points. Any more would be unfair. As far as the ladder, full results would be reported.

Yeah, we're still playing this one....!!!! The tourney is still going and most folks have finished up. Shame your enthusiasm has waned....a quick flurry of files and the agony will be over in no time...lol. I don't know anything about replacements - it's kind of late in the day for that (the tourney was supposed to have finished at the beginning of April). You could always concede the game, of course, if it is really too tiresome to continue!

From the gist of this I thought Andy had gone on to find a replacement or claim a victory. I couldn't find any email after this that I had sent Andy to confirm he had done either of the above and that is my error for having thought about it but not implement it.

No excuses, just an explanation. I was indeed selfish and thoughtless. I placed a self imposed no-gaming ban on myself to get a headstart getting a new career going the last 2 months or so. Only sent a turn here or there to keep games alive. I conceeded a huge game with Okimaw that I knew I couldn't finish. Since Andy and I hadn't really started playing our game, I figured it best to stop before it got started after my long delays.

The disconnect was my fault. Apologies for the lack of consideration.

And, as for the first game, I won that one. Again, I thought I'd posted the results at one point :(

Joebob Thank you for the info.....there is a game or two not finished but I am sorry gentlemen the tourney is now over. It has gone on to long and some guys have disappeared. I am awarding the medals in the following order.
I am fair and not perfect yet! If there is something I missed let me knowand i will take it under advisement.
