Here's a screenshot from and 2054172's latest game. This Sherman was taken out by a top hit from a 120mm mortar round. Is that very flukey or is a top hit expected for that kind of damage?

Does immobilizing a Tiger I with offboard 81MM fire count?

I seem to be having a run of luck :freak::mad:

Oh well at least I won the Tiger one and am winning the Sherman one:laugh::smoke:

It happens sometimes. In one game, I once killed 2 Panzer IVs with 3 inch mortar rounds and another Panzer IV with an ATR (shot him in rear). In 30 other games, I never hit a tank with a mortar round!

Just got lucky.....

A 120mm mortar round should hit your Sherman only very rarely, but if it does hit, expect your Shermie to brew up!

There's a CMBO mission where an entire force of German Panthers is funneled across a single bridge over a canal, and as I was playing the AI, it hid the bridge with all of them at one time, with the usual results -- running into each other, backing up, and all that other traffic jam stuff. For several minutes they worked to try to cross the bridge, and for several minutes I pounded the area with my artillery, which was somewhere between 81mm and 105mm. I think I took at least 4 of them out with hits on the top armor.

But then, other times I've spent most of a 300-round mortar barrage on a set of vehicles and done absolutely nothing.

Maybe not.

In a current game, I had an SU-76 flushed from hiding by a barrage. As it scooted to new cover it suddenly exploded in the center of a cluster of incoming hits. Very spectacular explosion.

In all fairness, in the next turn my troops spotted a field gun, ATG or arty, not sure yet. Not sure if it had LOS or not.

Any barrage over 105mm has a decent chance of smashing up tanks..
