View Full Version : The Malitz Trophy Competition
Poor Old Spike

I cordially invite all Gamesquad members to sign up, it's simplicity itself, you play just one small (1500pts) short (20+) game against me, and whoever beats me by the highest score wins this silver trophy which will be sitting on your desk by the end of January..:)

Nice last photo POS. I take it your the Devil then.
Is this another one of your self generated POS challenges? I have to say that somehow I admire your tenacity at sticking to the same format for over 6 years but dont you ever get bored with it?
So, we just send you a QB of our own choosing of parameters & pick 1500 pts worth of troops and away we go? Cool.
Like this setting: ME, tiny map, urban, infantry only, winter, blizzard, 1945, I'll take the Allies.
Never mind I just saw the actual "conditions," mine would only confound you POS.
Although I must admit quite a number of players jump in the deep end.
You see so many jumping in on this here because POS has such a stunning personality.;)
So POS, I was wondering if you were the evil creepy guy or the semi-nice looking chap with his back turned towards us?
BTW, I can I just have the map?
I would play if it was a totally unrestricted force mix. I dont like being shoehorned into my opponents zone of comfort all the time and as POS has only ever played 1500-2000 pt QB Armour heavy battles I think I can predict the outcome of most of these games.
The Ego is a wonderfull thing..........

Hehe--POS......I think that the lack of interest may be due to the fact that we have no idea what you are really proposing. I have visions of trying to cross barbed wire in an open field with conscript Russians which your elite German 150mm infantry guns, Panthers and MG42 HMGs (in trenches) mow me down!
What are the parameters?

It's all in the Blitz thread here mate -
http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=43407
Here's a single post from it -
COMBAT FOOTAGE - Huzaar's Panther beats off 2 x T-34/85's single-handed
PIC 1 - The Situation. All tanks are stationary. I want to nail the Panther but I don't want my T-34's to step forward into the street and have to contend with his front armour..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub3/HuzX.png
PIC 2 - So I slap 2 o'clock armour-arcs on them and step backwards into a firing position guaranteed to hit him in the side, how kewl is dat!
But oops, he's stepped backwards too and I'm looking at his front armour!
A burst of MG fire from the Panth shocks the front T-34 but no matter, the other one lets the Panth have a tungsten round right down its throat but it bounces off the hull front!!
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub3/HuzY.png
PIC 3 - After seeing his shot bounce, the T-34 chickens and auto-slams forward, abandoning his still-shocked and paralysed mate who is quickly taken down by the Panther before he can recover and fire..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub3/HuzZ.png
Noob note - See how CM tank combat is like a chess game, move and countermove, trying to outguess the enemy, a bit like a destroyer-v-submarine action, waddya say Captain Ramius?
"We will pass through the American patrols, past their sonar nets, lay off their largest city and listen to their rock and roll while we conduct missile drills"

SITREP 21st January 08
With 10 days left until the Malitz Competition ends at midnight on the 31st, there are still these 5 games in progress.
Game length is 20+ and here's the current situation-
Bertram (turn 21)
Dolphin (tn 16)
Sempai (tn 16)
Raz Atoth (tn 10)
Shootme (tn 6)
(At the moment Der Kuenstler is leading the competition after beating me 79-21 (Major Win) on Dec 22nd, so if any of the 5 above can beat me by a higher margin, the trophy will be theirs)
Any games that finish after Jan 31st won't count for the trophy but of course will still count for the Blitz ladder.
PS - And of course the sign-up is STILL OPEN to anybody if they think they can rattle off 20+ turns before Jan 31st, so let me know and you're in..:)

While its nice to know your hard at it organising another Blitz Tourney, generally having fun, blowing your own trumpet blah blah blah, whats the point of advertising for games on THE BLITZ ladder here?
Surely you mean the games can be reported a Gamesquad if played?
Of course anyone would be wary of playing a scenario against a guy who readily admits that he has played it what? 30 times?
You must have seen every blade of grass by now?
Well done for keeping the Blitz alive though as without you there right now it would indeed be dead since all the entertaining, lucid guys seem to have been run off.

Ha ha ha have you been bitten by another rabid haggis mate? I CAN'T WIN the Malitz Trophy myself, I'm just the organiser and am paying for the cup out of my own pocket..:)
As for it being one-sided, huh, I've been beaten 12 times out of 29 so far, I can take my lickings like a man..:)
It's a self-contained competition for a silver trophy in its own right, and the fact it also counts for the Blitz ladder is only secondary. In fact one guy (Pak Paule) had his win reported for the WPC ladder, and CMant chose not to have it reported on any ladder at all, i'm quite flexible..:)
And as for the whingers who were kicked out of Blitz like spoilt pouting brats because they couldn't get their own way, good riddance to 'em, the Blitz is now a thriving, dynamic, vibrant powerhouse..
In fact I posted 10 stunning AT-rifle test screenshots there only yesterday..:)
http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=43930
PS - I never refuse anybody entry to any of my competitions, even the whingers are welcome, but they've sworn a "blood oath" to have nothing to do with POS, therefore peer pressure won't allow them to enter in case their cronies tell them off. No chance of a silver cup for them then.. :)
the Blitz is now a thriving, dynamic, vibrant powerhouse
Hmm, its something to mull over, I'm just off to check that this is true.................
.................................................. .... Well blow me POS, your not wrong, if vibrant is ten posts in a day and one of the main discussions in the last week is about COD-4 then your right.
I must also congratulate you for achieving your long term goal of taking over a message board. Well done mate, its about time they made you a Mod over there, or at least gave you Mod powers in your own section. Whats the point of working for the man eh?

I'm comfortable at Blitz - for the moment - and am happy to stick there purely because my loyal fans want me to..:)
Also, Randy did a good job of weeding out the whingers (i won't mention names) so there's now a very good atmosphere there..:)
Ah of course, your loyal fanbase.........
Whats yer next project Spike? I was thinking about the CM Infantry tournament based on one of your famous maps?

Funny you should say that mate, Malitz finishes 4 days from now and I'm already working on my next one, to be called the 'Trident Competition' which i'll launch in a blaze of publicity at Blitz around mid-Feb.
It'll be a 2000-pt fictional QB ME to the same format as Malitz, using my stunning new map below with Unrestricted purchase (ie players can spend everything on infantry if they like)
As you see, it's divided into 3 individual sectors (Large Town/ Mixed Countryside/ Heavy Woods, hence the name 'Trident'), and each sector is isolated from the others by rivers with wooded banks.
Therefore, whatever forces a player assigns to a sector must operate there the whole game because the rivers mean there's no way they can hop into another sector, or even get LOS into them (except for aircraft) how kool is that..
Therefore the choice facing each player before the start is not only what forces to buy, but whether to commit them to just 1 sector, 2 sectors, or all 3 sectors, and in what proportion per sector.
(In fact nobody would want to risk committing everything to just one sector with its 3 flags because that'd mean he'd be handing the other 2 sectors and their 6 flags to his opponent on a platter if his oppo had gone for those)
Most people will therefore no doubt go for at least 2 sectors..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/Trident-map-1.png
Needless to say its open to the whole CM community, I never refuse any entries, and there's the usual silver trophy at the end of it.
Let's see who dares enter the arena..;)

I'm still working on the map, in fact I've just decided to do it in cmak May 45 instead of cmbb, when the Brits/ US have at last got a good selection of quality armour to choose from..
I expect to launch in mid-Feb, here's a sneak preview of the opening publicity shot -

COMBAT FOOTAGE -BERTRAM REPRESENTS GAMESQUAD IN MALITZ!
Bertram's Stalin clears its throat..
My panzer column races into town and halts, the infantry jump off and occupy the church, and a blinding flash and deafening roar rings out from top left..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BertA.png
Yup, a Stalin.. (let me make a quick note - 'must not walk into Stalins LOS')
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BertB.png
Bertrams T-34's refuse to pay bridge toll..
My schreck guy had them targetted for about 10 seconds but never pulled the trigger and got wasted, he must have been on crack..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BBO.png
Bertram's Stalin in feeding frenzy..
The awesome beast feeds on its natural prey -panzers- in the burning heart of Malitz..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BertJ.png
Bertram chips away at my panzers..
His T-34 sneaks a shot round the corner of the building catching my guy by surprise, I'm down to two tanks left now, but he has 4 left, so I'm in a world o' hurt..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BertV-1.gif
RESULT JUST IN - POS bt Bertram
This endgame shot shows final front lines (Russian brown, German blue), and the number of AFV's each side bought. Yellow figure denotes number destroyed.
Most of Bertrams 8 tanks (including his 2 Stalins) were regulars, but all my 6 Pz IVH's were vets, that was the deciding factor that tipped it my way..
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/Competitons/BertrmT.png
Bertram seized the church but my men in the woods managed to keep the flag neutral..

Nice thread POS. Tells the story. Looks like Bertram got good licks in, but you had better flag positioning.
Indeed it was a fun read POS. And is it possible to acquire the Maltiz map and your new one without having to join the tourny?
Great write up POS. What I would have given for 2-3 more turns............famous last words!
I couldn't see anyone in the grass by the central flag and thought I owned it.
