Hello All,
I am working on a Bn level scenario covering a Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania in 1914. It's based on Turtledove's American Front series & Tane Woodley's AF1914 scenario.

What I would like to know is, are my settings & the rational behind them reasonable for a scenario set in 1914, or am I way off the mark & if so, what changes would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

The force supply stockpile at 100% (bullets & beans at their source, point A). My rational is that it's day one of the war & The USA & CSA have sufficient bullets & beans in their inventory. Between the "peacetime ammo stocks are exhausted" events & losing industrial units, the USA's force supply stockpile can drop to 55% & the CSA's force supply stockpile can drop to 71% (worst-case scenarios).

The unit supply level (bullets & beans at in the soldier's hands, point B) at 100% because, again it's day one of the war & their wagons & packpacks should be full.

I think that where things should go off the rails is in the formation supply distribution efficiency settings (getting bullets & beans from point A to point B). The USA's formations set to 60 & the CSA's formation set to 55.

Does any of this seem reasonable?

Setting unit supply levels at 100% is a good idea, but it seems to me that formation and force supply settings should be lower. Old TAOW manuals recommend Force Supply Stockpiles between 15 and 40, with larger values being used in modern scenarios. Formation Supply Distribution Efficiency has recommended levels between 20 and 100, again with larger values in modern times.

If I recall, armies of the WWI era did a lot of resting between battles, with units often being rotated in and out of the front lines. And ammunition supply was a constant problem for most armies, at least in the first part of WWI.

You might want to look at what other designers of WWI era scenarios are doing.

Perhaps you can set values lower and use supply units to simulate supply emphasis or divisional/corps supply trains. Then you can also use events to make supply units appear or withdraw, etc.
