View Full Version : PBEM glitches, anyone?
Here's a glitch, which neither I nor my opponent can figure out.
His move 14 does not allow me to view battle replay. He resends the same file, and all seems ok. We get to my move 16 which he cannot view, and it causes him not to be able to move his own units, even if he chooses not to view replay.
He is on Vista with new computer, I am on XP. We have had similar problems twice in the past before Vista. This time it is Campaign Waterloo, then it was El Alamein.
Often times the .xxx & .yyy files get corrupted - and should be deleted. This can happen from a number of things, such as playing multiple game turns in a single session - i.e. not closing the game down in between turns, or doing a turn in multiple sittings - i.e. saving it and coming back to complete it. Or, the least appealing...someone reloading a turn repeatedly to try and alter their play.
So, deleting the .xxx & .yyy files regularly should keep the game file corruptions to a minimum. I've written a batch file which goes through my entire game directory and removes them from all my different games at once, and I run it every week or so.
Thanks, Rich.
Two moves later, deleting those files, no problem. Also, I should add that my having two (different game, same basic scenario) HPS windows open at same time also caused a problem. As Glenn Saunders suggested on another forum, I also now restart computer between moves.
....Second playtest of new Four Days in June scenario for Campaign Waterloo, using my Ligny/QB oob ideas and a whole new units file. My valiant opponent and scenario design helper surrendered overnight 17-18 June as the french. My turn now as french, and we shall see if my suspicion that the french can win is true....I think it looks good.
