View Full Version : That old chestnut, "Reconstitution"

Despite having played this game for several years, I'm still not clear on where units reconstitute. The tdg site Jamian recommended is very good on how reconstituting units suck up equipment and become eligible to reconstitute, but doesn't go into much detail on where they reappear.

I think:

If a unit is set to 'fixed' reconstitution, it will always try to reappear at that named hex only (which is always its first objective hex)- if it's occupied, the unit simply sits in a queue until the hex becomes friendly again

If a unit is set to 'yes' reconstitution it will try to reappear...where? At its objective hexes, starting with the first but defaulting to the second if the first is occupied?

Or do they try to reappear at the Force Reconstitution Point, which is that large coloured letter 'R', only one of these each side per scenario?

I know that there are different rules for guerillas, and that units scheduled to reappear on map edges can shuffle a few hexes along if the intended hex is occupied, but I'm more interested in the underlying principles for standard combat units.

Appreciate it if anyone has the definitive answer to this. To be honest, I'm mainly intered in my Europe Aflame scenario: I don't want the Red Army OOB2 reconstituting in Paris because Stalingrad's occupied, or the Rumanians reappearing in Hamburg because that's where I've put the 'R'.

Thanks in advance.

The second - the REENTRY hex is used with some rare exceptions. Othere hexes are used when the hex is enemy occcupied.

You need use "fixed" reconstitution - nothing more is needed, nothin more is possible.

OK, thanks for that advice.

I noticed during designing of Vietnam 1965-75,

If a re-entry point is selected during deployment phase, most units will reconstitute there. If that hex is occupied by enemy force, FUTURE reconstitutes will go to either a previously fixed site or their 1st objective, then 2nd and 3rd depending on hex ownership. But the units that were going to be reconstituting and waiting for equipment, and were assigned to re-enter at re-entry site(now owned by enemy) will not reconstitute until that site is re-taken. I am pretty sure that happened to my units a few times. Whilst playing with Secadegus, my nlf forces would not reconstitute due to ownership probs, I have since fixed that by stating a certain hex each unit is to enter at and if that is enemy controlled then it will go to 're-entry hex' in a controllable hex.

(Holy re-entry phrases.)
(Thesaurus needed for Control, re-entry, reconstitute.)

If I start the scenario with both reentry hexes safely tucked away in a corner of the map and already occupied by a throwaway enemy unit, will all reconstitutes take place at the first objectives, etc.?

I tried the above and it seems to work.
I have multiple reentry hexes all over the map.
