I've always tried to "bait" the AI and get it to expose units or move into positions where I wanted them.

I try to "bait" the AI too. When there are neutral objectives I use these as bait. I race forward and take these objectives, then I set-up fire lanes and just simply kill as many of his troops that I can. Then after most of the game has been played I try to take the rest of the objectives because now I should have superior fire power. When using this strategy timing becomes very important, you can advance on his objectives too soon and as a result your guys will get killed left and right. Just remember you already own your objectives plus you took the neutral objectives so you should at least get a draw, possibly a victory, but you shouldn't lose unless you beat your self or get greedy and advance to soon. If you have suffered high casualties just fall back before the situation gets worse, don't even try to advance, then set-up defensive positions around your most valuable objectives. A draw may not be a victory but it's not a defeat. Practice is the key. Never quit so you will respect loosing more, thereby the disheartening lessons learned from defeat will have more educational value.

Years ago when I played Steel Panthers I, II, and III I used to think AI stood for Automatic Idiot not Artificial Intelligence because it used to try to take objectives even if it was suffering high casualties. It was easy to defeat because it would never stop advancing. Now it will be cautious. Now I think the AI is a formidable opponent.
