View Full Version : Playetesters Needed
I have a new, updated version of my Aegean 2004 scenario ready for playtest.
Scale: 10 km, Bde/Rgt level.
If anyone is interested please let me know.
Always curious - I'll take either side

great, thanks! I will send you the scenario later tonight (at work now )
I've played both sides of the old scenario and thought it was a good fight. A great scenario and an interesting theater. I would be happy to have a go with the new.

excellent! I just discovered a minor bug tonight so it will be another day for me to playtest before I can send it you both.
The scenario is called Aegean 2008 and the OOB and TOE have been updated and the scale has been reduced to 10 km and at the brigade/regiment level.
It works ok with the PO but the PO has its limitations.

Consider separate versions -per PO side- whwre you can put settings in place for the PO which otherwise might interfere with PBEM

you are right. I am kind of leaning that way too. The pbem version can have theater options that give the players more flexibility.

I have'nt started the first turn yet - seems to be biased to the Greek side :(
If we enforce TOAW rules - I'm going to lose many marines because of the
TOAW rule (sit at sea/1 turn w/o a port) ! This scenario screams for airmobile troops - am I missing something or just a Ami?

I tried to be totally fair when it came to the TOE and OOB (they both came from published sources and I had lots of help from a Turkish friend of mine).
I was able to beat the PO playing either side but I understand that is not necessarily a measure of balance.
Turkey has more helicopters, commandos/airborne troops as well as air transport points. Greece has an air mobile bde but just barely enough helos to airlift the bde. Their airborne and cdo units are smaller (same with marines).
So Turkey has more flexibility in conducting air landing and airborne operations.
As for the islands w/o ports - yes they do need air mobile/airborne troops but none of those islands are garrisoned and their objective values are very low compared to the major islands with ports and the objectives on the mainland. Turkey can easily get air superiority initially and air land cdo/airborne units and Greece has to recapture the islands either with another air landing, assuming they can get past the Turkish Air Force. Alternatively they need a seaborne operation in which case the disadvantage (using TOAWIII rules) is for Greece not Turkey (Greece has fewer naval units in any case).
This was deliberate. I did not want to put a port and garrison on every island (not realistic anyway only a few islands are garrisoned irl and most have tiny ports that can not support major operations). It would have made it very easy to invade and would totally ignore the naval aspect of the game. All the major islands have at least one port so marines.
In any case, the total value of all the small island objective values is minimal. When I was playing Turkey against the PO I was able to land cdo units or subunits on most of the small islands with no difficulty, especially after establishing air superiority.
I used the marines for two major island landings.
I hope this helps.
I'm not a designer:lier: - never will be :lier: but this scen calls for a first air/naval strike w/everything available:D I will play it as such - but in real life
we are talking about 2 NATO members:eek:
Sorry - just reread your last post - but why bother w/the little islands - when you can just cut the Greek throats?
T3 just sent off to H - it's quite disturbing to hit NATO units w/other NATO units :( The Turkish air force is certainly not up to even Luftwaffe standards - the bottom of the totem pole in USAFE :)
