View Full Version : CM TCP/IP +voice here?
Don't you wish you could just pop into GameSquad and start up a TCP/IP CM game with a friend & talk to them via Teamspeak? (or any type CM game)
Wouldn't it be nice if GS had a dedicated TS server so it would be easy for any CM player anywhere in the world to pop in and connect to the server vs other CM players anywhere in the world? (Registered with GS of course) Even some real CM "chatroom" discussions could ensue.
Way back when I was the CM MOD here I proposed GS get a TS server and I began formulating plans for weekend CMBB- TCP "Live" Tourneys (small scenarios), didn't happen then.
But wouldn't that be nice?
Too bad.
It seems that only "World of Warcraft" game players that become a member of the "Dethnet" Horde Guild here at GameSquad are allowed to use the dedicated TS server GS activated here LAST May. (And before you ask-"inquires" have been made and you see the results...)
Does that strike anyone else as interesting?

{maybe this will derail the POS thread :p }
Geez, Kerry...
You're my buddy, and have been for some years - ever since a marathon game of EA many moons ago. I've had some great heart-to-heart conversations with you about life and various other subjects, and I'm used to the fact that your posts usually have an undertone of negativity.
But my goodness...
First off - you are not a mod any longer. And if you were, you'd know that there is a post in the staff forum (from me!) that already addresses what you're asking about. I've promised an update on TS to the staff very soon - initiated by me pondering your request. I'm happy to try to help you guys get something going on TS as well - it has served us very nicely!
TS was also setup this May, and not last...
But Kerry - knowing I am the GM of DethNet, knowing I am the Mod of the WoW forum, knowing I had something to do with getting TS setup and run - did you even bother to contact me? Or just a bit of whining in here?
Seriously, if one of my pre-teens posted something like that, I'd end up grounding them for feeling sorry for themselves in public. I'm not trying to offend you or start flame-war 2000 - but seriously - why can't you contact me prior to posting something like this?
TS only exists here because I hassled the heck out of the admins, and they were kind enough to give the squeaky wheel some grease. You didn't even speak word one to me about this request, and yet *I'm* the one working to help you get what would be a great addition to the CM forums. And you're taking 'polite' shots at my forum, and my guild.
The reasons for the delay? I am busy as all heck! Did you know that Veers and I are now the ones developing EA? And yet I don't even post there - not enough time. I have TOAW III for months now. I haven't even installed it yet. I have turns of EA due from March! ACG is paying me to complete articles for the EA-ICS - and yet I'm on 'leave' there - no time! And some of what very little time I have free, I am spending working on TS for you guys, and you talk trash like that without doing me the courtesy of even speaking to me...
I'm sorry - I'm a little upset - I usually don't say anything like this in public. But I have stood up for you when you've made posts like the above (even in 'my' WoW forum), apologized for the attitude, etc etc etc, but I'm a little hurt that you'd say something like this.
Geez, Kerry...
Give me some credit Shane- I was a Mod here for years, I know how things work.
1. Don't you think I did ask & inquire about the TS GameSquad Server already, privately more than once for the site/CM guys? Did I ever get a response from you? Did you see me posting any public inquires / comments about it in the preceding 5 months? And did I post anything above not true?
2. However, I was surprised how quickly someone "inside" responded when I did post about it. And, just why should there be any "private" inquires at all about other "games" getting TS when the WoW group has had TS up & running for 5 months? Unless non-WoW'er's were not meant to know about GS having a TS server? (I doubt that though) But there were no site wide announcements about it at all. I didn't realize other games had to stumble upon a free server being available at GS & then beg for access to a site-sponsored function one forum already “openly” had.
3. Whining who me? Please. Maybe the issue just needed some open "attention" since nothing was forthcoming officially from anyone, nor had the general site been informed about it in any manner.
4. I know nothing about the inner workings of sites or TS but, GS has a TS server up & running AND only WoW players were allowed access to it. Why wasn’t this opportunity simply announced site wide?
5. You seem to think this was aimed at you- really it wasn't it was aimed at the CM guys to see if anyone cared or had an opinion. If they don't oh well, if they do then maybe the current CM Mod could have brought us up to speed on the issue with no theatrics.
6. On a side note- negative undertones & shots at your guild? I think that was dealt with openly in the various WoW threads already with the proper Alliance vs Horde tone.
Wow!
Never used TS, but would definately consider it for TCP games. Mind you in all fairness if its a case of limited availability I suppose a game like WoW would need it more than CM. Sometimes I'm not sure I would like to actually speak to my opponent, if you know what I mean.
Definately would try it though.
Och! laddie a body could nae understand the Scottish tongue.:p
A ts server would have the capability of having many rooms to accomodate many users.

Yes I do, but just think if the possibilities of setting up a game with any opponent anywhere in the world quickly.
Pop in here to the general TS chat room (set up some pre-time periods) see whos hanging out, quickly hash out the game (BB/AK/BO) the parameters, length of time etc. Instead of a series of lengthy & delayed emails bouncing back & forth for days hoping they all arrive in order.
The idea of a "weekend" TCP tourney still sounds good with a bunch CM "experts" out there sounding off in the chat room about who can beat who in less than 2 hours with one Tiger bogged down behind the hill...

When you put it that way, then yes, it would be a boon I think.
