Have completed turn one not to much to do,the Inf units that could advanced to contact along three axis, the arty bombarded for two rounds then on the third round supported the Inf units along with the air units in there attacks upon german ground forces one german unit was pushed back on the left flank and my turn ended there, what is the best state to leave the arty in,on my next turn i will post maps to help explain my moves regards Ian

Turn 2 started with arty bombardments of german target units for two combat rounds 40% then land units assaulted on LL a small enemy uint evaped saltera was captured by a tank regt that then exploited two hex north but unfortunatly no other units had enough MP to follow up and the tank regt was isolated,on my last turn i attacked the two german units either side of the breach although both assaults forced the enemy units to retreat they retreated into saltera cutting off the tank regt, elswhere german para units where assaulted and forced to retreat.

I know from own experience how tempting it is to penetrate deep into enemy lines with armoured or recon units. However, I try to fight the temptation and advance another hex only if I can occupy the first hex with at least one other unit that has MP left to dig in. A firm base for the penetration, if you will. Otherwise it seems to me of little use, if the spearheads are simply surrounded and isolated. :shy:

Your absolutley right, was like red rag to a bull forgot that most of my units had to expend MP to get to the start line and where down to about 6 or 7 which wasnt enough to storm through the breach, next turn should be in better position to carry out assaults as the bulk of my forces have already advanced to contact, thanks for reply regards Ian

Turn 3 started with a round of Arty strikes to soften up the defenders, the second round saw my units assault,2 companys of German para where surrounded and evaped while in the western end of the line Allied units forced there way through the Gothic line and look to be well set to continue their advance,in the rest of the line German units where pushed back but no breakthrough was acheived although enemy para units dug in near the coast are being threatened from their flank.I had 3 combat rounds was hoping for four also im going to have to start moving my arty units forward for future operations against the gothic line.

Good work on the Gothic line. Push this breach as hard as possible. Your opponent will have to perform a difficult disengagement operation, in order to avoid being trapped to the S of the Gothic line. Basically half the german force is defending only 8 VPs. Screening them off with a dash to the coast and rushing north with the rest of your forces, could make the game for you.
