Allright, assuming I'm totally retarded (which might be true ), what are the other ways to create a map, besides the editor?

Something about ODD comes to mind...?

Not sure what you mean mate, but there's no other way to create a TOAW map but with the editor heh :D The ODD only allows importing image files to lay an hexgrid over it that you can scale to match the TOAW scales. But you still need to draw the map hex by hex.

Oy, yeah, I was afraid of that. I hate making maps...
Thanks.

Making maps can be fun if you have good sources with which to work. Writing briefings & player notes is torture.

Heh, I find it the exact opposite.

I think you're actually disagreeing with me then, Foggy. :D

I disagree with Veers, disagree with Secadegas, agree with Bill II, agree with Telumar, not sure about Foggy and disagree again with Veers. I think that sums it up :D

i find making maps both interesting and maddening in TOAW. Interesting because you need to do research - especially for historical scenarios - maddening because with the current availability of digital maps, DEMs and mapping software, making maps in TOAW should be a lot less time consuming. The XML import feature should provide some relief i just haven't figured out how to make a TOAW XML map yet...

Making the map is my favorite part of the design process. The research tends to be much easier than Force research. And it gives you chills when it's finished and looks spot on.

Force design can be a pain when you're doing research for a year and use half a dozen spreadsheets to design them. But again, the end result is worth it.

The worst aspect of design for me is doing the PO objectives. That's tedious! And there is usually little to show for it, except a note in the briefing that the PO is programmed. Ralph's added some graphical tools now, so maybe that's no longer as much the case.

..and needs several test runs to check if the formations go where you want them to go, don't jam up etc etc
But it's rewarding when you see it all fall into place.

I ran House Of Cards PO vs PO (Soviets on attack settings, Germans on defense settings) last night and the timing and position of the frontline ends up very close... Danzig and Konigsberg get fairly well surrounded... I set the PO to fifnish off the defenders though, there's VP's to be picked up
