View Full Version : Help Please

I decided to try out the evaluation copy and following an uneventful download the programme ran well.
The problem started when I attempted to update the simulation and was unable to do so. Despite numerous attempts I finally gave up and sent an email to Storm Eagle but got no reply.
Following a search around I found Lempereur1’s comments on using Admin Rights when running the game on Vista and following his advice succeeded in updating the game.
But my elation was short lived, each time I run the game now it requests my trial authorization code and following its insertion the game only allows me to exit.
I have now sent three emails to Storm Eagle for assistance and have not as yet relieved any reply. Of course I cannot expect a small software company to be on call every minute of the day and being a weekend can’t help.
So what do I do, uninstall and start again, await a reply from the powers that be?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
OK, reinstalled the simulation and re-registered and it looks like the problems have gone away.
Followed Lempereur1’s advice on running the game under Vista and given myself Admin Rights.
Now I can get down to some serious evaluation!
I got that problem too, also mailed to SES.
Sometimes it takes a while before they reply, but mostly, they do. You have to be patient.
They have been helpful so far, which surely stimulates me to buy "Jutland" , though I'm a bit afraid it's too much the same of Distant Guns, just with other ships, and 1916 instead of 1904-05. I hope they will prove me wrong with loads of improvements and new dimensions.

XRAY I will get hold of Norm on this and see if we can get it worked out. I have been out of town for a few days and just got back.

At last I have managed to sort out the problems I’ve been having with the evaluation copy.
First I carried out a full uninstall, cleaned my registry and then reinstalled the simulation.
Following advice I found on the Games Squad Forum I ran the game in admin and the update proceeded without issue. The game now runs beautifully.
Purchased the simulation this afternoon!!

I don't think you'll see many similarities other than both games involving ships in gun battles. The improvements in naval tech between 1904 and 1914 totally changed the way naval battles were fought. This was mostly due to the vastly increased ranges possible due to directors. The frantic, close-range maneuvering of the RJW was replaced by more stately evolutions with the relative positions of the fleets not really changing that much or that very fast, even though the ships were much faster. So tactically, Jutland has a completely different feel from DG. The long ranges and bigger fleets have also made us make very significant changes to all sorts of command and control features, rework the AI, etc.
Bottom line, players will get a totally different experience playing Jutland than they have in DG. The basic principles of naval combat remain the same and there's a strong family resemblance between the 2 games in the basic inferface, ship models, etc., but how you play the game and control your units will be substantially different.

It's all sounding very tasty!! Hopefully, we'll have a more flexible scenario/mission editor included............... so I can try out my "What if Arbuthnot was first to sight the First Scouting Group?" and other tales of very short-lived events.
Thanks for the welcome.
Now I have the full game I’m going to spend some time getting used to the interface with the help of the Random Battle Generator before going onto the campaigns.
Also I’m really excited about the upcoming Jutland, my favourite naval period. Have you any idea when it will be released?

It's good of you to say so, Bullethead
I also hope some graphical elements will be improved, for instance, the fire... (in Distant Guns, this looks a bit too cartoon, whereas in other games, very realistic looking flames are present)

and the same goes for the water, which looks rather mediocre in comparison to other sims.
But, always put realism above graphical sweetness :devious:
