View Full Version : Indirect Fire
Saw this in the help file and was wondering which game offers this feature.
When you right click on a unit in the HexInfo Area, you may see the notation (I) following the unit’s range. This indicates that the unit is capable of Indirect Fire. A unit capable of indirect fire can fire on any hex within its range that it is facing regardless of line-of-sight limitations. However, when an attempt is made to fire on a hex using Indirect Fire, the target hex may scatter as much as 2 hexes away from the intended location. :hush:
I have seen no Napoleonic of American Civil war game that has indirect fire.
Not yet...its for a future title...

That said, that function does already exist in the EAW games, and FIW does make fair use of it.
I plan on updating Jena to be able to use this value for the various Russian Licorne sections that are in the game.
Might consider putting out a OB that has the Howitzers for both sides combined and split off from the batteries or perhaps just a few howitzer batteries.
Of course the Prussians have individual howitzer batteries already as well ...
As I have howitzers in my Napoleonic oobs, I'd like to give them, not long guns inderect fire capability.

Wait, Union Gunboats have indirect fire, as do the Seige Guns in Peninsula like the 10" mortars.
OK, will it be Mantua or Badajoz? Inquiring minds want to know.
My question is how do you activate indirect fire, from oob file or pdt file? I notice that though not stated in HPS' list of changes, the most recent upgrades' Usuers manuals make reference to the feature. Although the example given in the User's manuals give french 12 pounder indirect fire (althoug that battery probably is not split into gun and howitzer sections), I believe such should only be given to howitzers, licornes and mortars.
As posted above, this feature is not yet activated...so you'll have to wait for future releases.

Just like adding abatis/trenches in scenario editor, I'd guess. (I'd like to be able to add fortification hexsides, too.)
